Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager at Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid (MH), and direct supervision of the Project Manager Assistant the Civil Engineer will conduct his/her work according to the framework of the program and project implementation requirements.

The Civil Engineer will be based in the field to lead the civil engineering tasks related to rehabilitation and/or extension of the irrigation channels and any other field related to agricultural public infrastructures.

 


 

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the relevant Governmental Departments and community to select the locations of the irrigation channels that should be rehabilitated and/or extended.
  • Create BoQs based on the results and findings based on the the coordination and site visits.
  • Assist in procuring tools and materials to implement the work.
  • Supervise the CFW workers and contractor performance and ensure work is done according to the technical project requirements.
  • Use the site engineering templates to report to line manager on agreed regular basis. This includes following up the percentages of completion of work stages.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure to handover the work site to the end-user after the completion of work based on the agreed project technical measurements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related to the role (please explain in the application letter why you think your education and/or professional background is appropriate).
  • Team management and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in design and calculation software.
  • Capability to establish good and respectful relationship with other actors’ stakeholders
  • Able to train and manage a team (to listen, advise, support, solve conflicts, motivate, etc.);
  • Experience with participatory fieldwork, methodologies, monitoring and reporting;
  • Valid local driving license;
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles and code of conduct;
  • Patience, good personal organization, good communication and ability to work in teams, seriously, rigorously and personal accountability;
  • Initiative, flexibility and willing to learn;
  • Ability to work under time pressure, independently and with limited supervision;
  • Computer literate (IT) and good level of numeracy.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the field and in a related position. Preferably more, organizing the job of subordinates and mentoring them.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and local language is a must Arabic.
