Position Summary
The PACE Interpreter/Translator(s) report to the PACE Program Supervisor and are responsible for facilitating communication between parties who speak two different languages. They do this by interpreting, translating and re-communicating both verbal and written messages from one language into another. Languages include Spanish, Arabic, and Tagalog & English.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Translate Verbal Communications (Interpreter)
Assist with translation of verbal communications, individual communications between two people or small groups of people.
Conducts Translation of verbal communication can include participant assessments, home visits, medical appointments, etc.
It is crucial that translation is done accurately and quickly in real time without leaving out or changing any information that is being communicated.
Translate written and verbal communications
Assist with translation of written communications.
These can include anything from documents and forms to meeting notes to emails to presentations.
Translation of documents must effectively communicate the meaning of the text and maintain its core message.
Assist Clients Acting as a liaison between two parties, the interpreters facilitate
communications between potential and enrolled participants/family members
and San Diego PACE as well with other agencies and providers outside of
PACE.
This can include helping them understand documents and information
given to them by San Diego PACE or other agencies/providers, assisting
them in filling out forms and paperwork and answering questions or
addressing concerns on behalf of the participant/family member.
Maintains knowledge of the participant culture and be aware of any culturally sensitive issues that may arise.
Documentation: Being able to document vital interactions accurately and timely is
essential.
Documentation must be submitted in English and ensure that it
is accurate without changing any aspects of the original interaction.
Be organized and concise to ensure that no information is missing or overlooked.
Job Requirements
Education Required (Minimum level of education):
GED/High school diploma Education
Preferred: AA or BA in communication or health related field
Certifications/Licenses
Required:
Must have valid driver’s license and insurance
Experience Required (Minimum level of experience):
A minimum of one year experience working with healthcare software applications.
Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Spanish preferred.
Preferred:
Interpreter/translator certification skills because communication is the job of an Interpreter, they must have great communication abilities, verbal and written, in both of the languages they will be using.
They are personable and having great relationship-building skills, allowing them to effectively communicate and build relationships with both parties.
Empathy and an awareness of other cultures is also crucial to being a successful Interpreter.
Be fluent in relevant languages
Demonstrate translation abilities
Show knowledge of cultures involved
Be comfortable with public speaking
Technical Knowledge and Skills Required Performing the Job:
Proficient in Microsoft applications and use of electronic health data systems, TruChart experience preferred.
At a minimum level have good computer literacy including internet navigation and research skills.
