Job Description

Crisis Intervention Worker / Arabic speaking

(Full Time / Permanent)

CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking a full-time contract (35 hours/week) Crisis Intervention Worker to provide in-person and virtual services to newcomers who encounter problems and crises during their adjustment to life in Canada. The scope of the role includes but not limited to providing effective crisis intervention, responding to referrals from newcomer settlement staff and providing timely crisis assessment, intervention, and assistance in accessing or referring to internal or external community resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual short-term problem-solving support for newcomers through identifying the presenting problem, goals and available options
  • Provide mental health assessment and evidence-informed crisis intervention to newcomers and their families who are in emotional distress
  • Provide crisis support in emergency situations
  • Provide case management by coordinating with the appropriate additional supports and services needed to ensure optimum care within the boundaries of confidentiality and disclosure
  • Make appropriate referrals to longer-term community support services and/or mental health services as required
  • Plan, organize and facilitate group activities/trainings and orientation sessions on mental health-related topics
  • Form strong collaborations with mental health and social service agencies to facilitate effective delivery of crisis support services and for client’s recovery and integration into the society in the community
  • Participate in team meetings and relevant internal/external committees for program needs and opportunities
  • Input data into a database, maintain program records and prepare monthly reports and progress reports as required
  • Conduct outreach activities in newcomer communities to increase awareness of the service and raise awareness of mental health
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at streamlining and enhancing service delivery, propose suggestions to improve the program delivery
  • Meet assigned program goals
  • Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters level education in Social Work, Social Sciences or related health discipline is preferred, the minimum level of education is a post-secondary degree
  • Membership in good standing in related provincial regulatory association
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing mental health services and/or crisis support
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally responsive service delivery within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework.
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative, judgement and problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability in using discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues
  • Knowledge of community resources and services relating to mental health services
  • Solid computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office and Web 2.0 tools and able to provide virtual services
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Written and verbal fluency in Arabic language

Location: Peel Region (multiple locations in Mississauga & Brampton)

Salary: $64,975 per annum

Hours of Work: 35 per week, including evening and weekend hours as required
