DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department seeks dynamic candidates that will function as Community Health Workers in the community engagement and outreach projects of the local COVID-19 response. Preference for applicants that are bi-lingual in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), Urdu, Arabic, and/ or French based on the community needs. CRS-Community Health Workers will perform the following duties.
1. Conduct outreach, health education and health promotion programming including providing specialized health information, knowledge and skills to at risk populations.
2. Plan, organize, implement and monitor community outreach and health education and in various settings including churches, nursing homes, small businesses, worksites, civic groups and others.
3. Maintain close working relationships with internal staff, community-based and private sector organizations to perform health education and health promotion activities.
4. Develop and interpret culturally and linguistically appropriate content for health education materials, visual aids, presentations, interactive demonstrations for outreach and social media settings. Content include but is not limited to masks, hand washing, social distancing, get tested.
5. Perform evaluation activities including collecting and managing data, preparing reports and participating in quality assurance activities.
6. Utilize outreach, promotion, and marketing techniques to promote and disseminate actionable health and wellness information and advocate for health equity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.*
