B.A. or foreign equivalent in Arabic or related field, including but not limited to Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, Second or Foreign Language Education, or Arabic Linguistics.
Native or near-native fluency in Arabic.
Excellent verbal and written English language communication skills.
Minimum 1 year of experience teaching the Arabic language in the US.
Demonstrated ability to lead communicative, student-centered classrooms.
Positive evaluations from students, peers, and/or supervisors.

The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a part-time Teaching Specialist (job code 9754) in Arabic to teach Arabic language courses in Fall 2021 (August 30, 2021-January 12, 2022) and Spring 2022 (January 13, 2022-May 29, 2022). This is a 67% position. Teaching load is two Arabic courses in Fall 2021, and two in Spring 2022. The appointment is eligible for benefits and is annually renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses as needed, conditional on qualifications.
Participate in relevant unit/department meetings.
Assist with development and administration of tests.
Engage in professional development activities.
Performance standards:
1. Positive evaluations from students, Teaching Assistants (if appropriate), peers, and supervisors.
2. Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching, teamwork, program development, and professional development.
