Background: 

Mission East, founded in Denmark in 1991, is an international humanitarian and development organisation undertaking disaster relief and development programmes in Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

In Iraq, Mission East provides assistance for both urgent basic needs for those displaced by violence as well as longer-term support for returnees and IDPs in protracted displacement settings. Our current programme includes NFI and shelter, cash transfers, WASH assistance, livelihoods support, protection and psychosocial support activities delivered through multi-purpose community centres.

Overall Responsibility: 

The PSS Facilitator is primarily responsible for ensuring all PSS, life skills and capacity building activities are conducted according to (inter)national standards and in a timely manner. The facilitator will coordinate with beneficiaries to identify and facilitate PSS activities (such as sports, music, and visual arts activities) at the community centre and to ensure a safe space for all participants. The facilitator will record attendance and beneficiary feedback and report these to the team leader.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

Implementation of PSS and CB activities

 

  • Responsible for delivering arts, sports, and life skills and activities to children, youth and women from the crisis-affected population in line with acceptable and positive socio-cultural norms and traditions.
  • Understand and utilize common INGO and/or cluster approved PSS curriculums.
  • Research and introduce new, creative activities to support the community’s psychosocial needs.
  • Safely identify and recommend additional, specialized services to beneficiaries needing extra support (i.e. case management, MHPSS support groups, etc.).
  • Participate in needs and interest assessments – including inter-agency assessments, where possible and/or necessary and regularly monitor women’s general conditions, well-being and needs.
  • Establish rapport/trust with the participants.
  • Ensure all activities reporting systems are regularly updated and submitted to the line-manager and work closely with colleagues to evaluate the progress of the participants to the trainings.
  • Ensure confidentiality.
  • Contribute to a positive team spirit among all Mission East staff.
  • Develop and maintain positive coordination and relationships with partners and promote inter-sector collaboration.
  • Adhere to all ME HR policies, procedures and code of conducts that ensures transparency, services and accountability to beneficiaries and report any abuse of beneficiaries by other ME staff, including sexual exploitation and abuse in accordance with ME reporting procedures.
  • Ensure all relevant financial documentation is completed accurately as required by ME finance policy and requirements.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment/assets for the training activities; manage and order new supplies in collaboration with your line-manager when necessary while ensuring that costs stay within budget.
  • Monitor/track utilization of program supplies/resources to ensure efficient use of available resources.
  • Adherence to the ME security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line-manager and/or security manager.
  • Any other related task that is requested by your line.

 

Qualifications Required

  • University degree will be preferable – a positive, supportive, eager-to-learn attitude is required.

 

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience.
  • Experience in delivering activities and trainings to multiple groups.
  • Prior experience working with youth and in emergency contexts.
  • Good understanding of current situation/on-going crisis.
  • Competency in writing progress reports; familiarity with principles and practice of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Computer literate (Excel, Word, Email).
  • Prior experience in NGO work preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Kirkuk.

Preferable
