Job Description
The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for programming that engages with local refugee, immigrant and migrant (RIM) communities around key topics related to COVID-19, spreads information and awareness about issues such as testing, contact tracing and the vaccination, and identifies ways to best address RIM communities’ barriers in relation to participating in COVID-19 prevention and mitigation initiatives. This role is part of a larger IRC project to prevent and mitigate the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 in RIM communities in the United States.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, Migrants providing COVID-19 information and vaccine access, ensure materials are created and disseminated, make sure grant deliverables are met and ensure monthly reports are submitted.
- Lead the development of a wide variety of messaging, video and other outreach materials that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and that can be distributed through trusted channels to targeted RIM communities.
- Work with the Community Outreach Assistant to review, edit and provide feedback on produced content and other materials.
- Steward relationships with community contacts, stakeholders, and organizational partners to discuss strategies that center RIM communities,
- Lead the office in identifying and addressing barriers clients face in accessing COVID-19 preventive measures and the vaccine.
- Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, including weekly meetings with project leads and monthly group meetings.
- Follow all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency, placing importance on client confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Lived experience as a refugee, immigrant or migrant or health or social service-related degree.
- Experience in community outreach and project leadership.
- Strong connection and relationship with local refugee community members.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Proven track record to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
- Team leader with excellent problem-solving and organization skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work remotely and access to reliable Internet.
- Comfort with appearing on various media outlets including, video, radio, etc.
Preferred:
- Bilingual ability in an additional target language desired (Arabic, Swahili, Dari, Ukrainian, Burmese, Tigrinya, and Nepali are the preferred languages).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with aspects of the COVID-19 response (contact tracing, testing, etc.).
Working Environment:
- A combination of standard office environment and ‘field’ time in and around the service delivery area.
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
