Job title: Protection Officer
Reporting to: project coordinator.
Employment Band: C.1

Job brief:

The Protection Officer is responsible for the timely, high-quality, and effective provision of CBP services within their area of operation. This includes Community Safe Spaces, psychosocial support, awareness-raising, community capacity building, and recreational activities.

Responsibilities:

Service Provision:

• Supervise Protection Assistants (CBP) in direct service provision, including the provision of technical guidance for best practice Community-Based Protection services for beneficiary children, youth, women, and men.
• Ensure the successful delivery of CBP activities; including but not limited to: Psychosocial Support (PSS), Protection Monitoring, community capacity building, recreational activities, and awareness raising.
• Oversee the delivery of services through both, or either, physical Community Safe Spaces (CSS) or mobile teams.
• Ensure tracking and reporting of activity data to supervisor.
• Set and oversee team schedules for service delivery, and effective. communication with the community for when and where services will be happening.
• Oversee and ensure high-quality delivery of structured PSS curriculum.
• Monitor staff working hours, complete performance review with staff, ensure respect of ASO Code of Conduct
• Train all newly recruited assistants on the service delivery, the relevant SOPs and the data filing and storing procedures.
• Ensure continuous on the job coaching and mentoring.
• Manage recruitment of directly supervised positions (preparation of recruitment requests, shortlisting, interviews, tests).
• Produce monthly reports and support the project coordinator in submitting internal reports as per schedule.
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly work plans in a timely manner.
• Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools and report on problems in the implementation of the program.
• Oversee the tracking and reporting of activities and target achievements in the services under their responsibility.
• Lead weekly supervisory meetings with the team to address any issues and set team plans.
• Responsible for the creation and updating of monthly procurement plans for the Protection CBP team, submit to project coordinator on a monthly basis.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers.
• Advocate for the needs of vulnerable individuals both internally and through coordination mechanisms through evidence-based advocacy.
• Maintain an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and ensure that CBP assistants are informed about the available services.
• Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the project coordinator.
• Maintain positive work relationships within the team, and promote team-building efforts in coordination with the project coordinator.
• Participate in training and coaching as required by management.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Experience and competencies:
• At least 3 years of experience in protection services or relevant humanitarian action.
• At least 1 year experiencing supervising staff.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.
• Ability to provide technical support, trainings and supervision to assistants.
• Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently and prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
• Flexibility in working overtime when needed.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel).
• Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions.
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people effected by conflict.
Education:
• BSc/BA in social work and/or psychology, social studies or relevant field; further training will be a plus.
