Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator, Arabic – Residential/Virtual Concordia Language Training Center

The Lead Instructor of a Concordia Language Villages Language Training Center (LTC) program is responsible for the development and overall implementation of short-term language-specific two-to four-week long iso-immersion, blended immersion, or virtual immersion programs in accordance with client-specified expectations. This includes planning and implementing the program curriculum, collaborating with staff recruitment and interviewing, budget/expense tracking, some public relations, and interacting with support staff from the operations areas at the Language Villages. The Lead Instructor is responsible for implementing program elements that reflect the mission and immersion principles and methodology of Concordia Language Villages, and meet client expectations, all within the parameters of the Concordia LTC model. The lead instructor reports to the LTC director and associate director, is responsible for managing an instructional team of four to six individuals as a cohesive, collaborative team, and interfaces with the CLV administrative and support teams as a whole.

Minimum Qualifications

Superior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced (minimum) proficiency English

Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education

Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning in an immersion setting for adults

Strong organizational and management skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Advanced degree in a related field

Ability to perform the essential functions of the program leader position (below)

Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; assume responsibility and costs for any visa requirements

For virtual and blended immersion programs, experience with virtual teaching and Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and Google Classroom

Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Experience teaching and/or studying in the US higher education system

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or PhD in related field

Prior experience in intensive iso-immersion training/teaching environments

Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales like the ILR and the OPI

Experience with content-based language instruction for adults

Experience teaching in a Concordia Language Villages program or in a comparable language immersion environment

Experience teaching in online programs and use of Online Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or Google Classroom.
