General context about this project:
Yazda operates a Mobile Medical Unit servicing 14 villages on the north side of Sinjar Mountain. Work planned under this project will include general provision of primary health care with specific attention to the implementation of integrated non communicable disease (NCD) and mental health (MH) care.

About the role:
Yazda is looking for a Medical Doctor to join the Mobile Medical Unit. The incumbent will provide medical care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to standard international protocols and validated guidelines, following universal hygiene standards/precautions/including COVID measures, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.

 

Reports to:

–        Hierarchically to the Medical Project Manager

–        functionally to the Stichting Vluchteling (SV) advisors


Main responsibilities and tasks:

•        Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.

•        Ensure all patients, regardless of the reason for their visit, will be screened for diabetes and hypertension.

•        Provide quality medical care according to standard international guidelines delegating wherever appropriate tasks to the nurse (task shifting), promoting patient empowerment and self-management through education. In particular he/she will also provide care for patients affected by non-communicable diseases (Eg. WHO recommendations on NCD management) and may delegate specific tasks to the nurse as appropriate to follow up on chronic patients (task shifting), such as (but not limited to) monitor vital signs, screening for complications, monitor treatment adherence. He/she will ensure a follow up appointment for each patient is made by the nurse and a follow up system for patients missing their appointments.

•        He/she will identify, and refer patients to higher care whenever needed, and follow up on the patient’s clinical course, with the support of the nurse.

•        Setup and update daily patient documentation according to agreed templates and in collaboration with the nurse provide all clinical information that has to be recorded in the patient’s documentation in order to guarantee quality of care management, especially for patients affected by non-communicable diseases and mental health conditions.

•        Supervises the messages provided by the Community Health Officer to ensure the content is medically sound, appropriate, and culturally acceptable for education and health promotion sessions.

•        Is able to perform Psychological First aid and manage patients affected by severe mental health conditions (After MHGap training and with the supervision of a psychiatrist) and works in collaboration with the Mental Health Counsellor/Psychologist to cross refer patients according to the needed treatment.

•        Participate in health education of the patient (and family) especially on NCD and MH care.

•        Identify SGBV victims and provide appropriate treatment and/or referral whenever appropriate.

Is actively involved together with the nurse in keeping proper and up to date patient documentation and data collection, ensuring all needed information for clinical follow up are recorded at all appointments.

Required skills and knowledge:

•        Licensed Medical Doctor

•        Minimum 2 years of experience

•        Fluency in Kurmanji, Arabic, English

•        IT skills in Excel and Word literacy

 

Desirable skills and knowledge:

•        Previous NGO experience

•        Previous experience in managing NCD patients

•        MhGap training and management of patients with MH conditions
