Context:

 

Under the general guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM), under overall supervision of the Head, Community Stabilization Unit (CSU), administrative supervision of the Head of Sub Office and the technical supervision of the Protection coordinator, the incumbent will support the overall supervision and implementation of Protection projects, line manage protection teams, and support protection mainstreaming across IOM programmes. In Iraq- Duhok Sub-Office

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

  1. Support the technical supervision and day to day management and monitoring of protection projects and ensure that they are implemented in line with IOM policies and procedures. Core protection activities include, but are not limited to, protection assessments, protection monitoring, case management (GBV and trafficking in persons), and protection referrals.
  2. Supervise and manage national protection teams across IOM Iraq, including line management of Senior Protection Assistants.
  3. Work in close collaboration with the CSU Operational Support team to ensure that protection projects are implemented in a timely and transparent manner, in accordance with IOM policies and procedures, and that project spending is accurately tracked on a continuous basis.
  4. Build the technical protection capacity of IOM teams and partners by delivering protection trainings and on the job capacity building:
    • Support the development and translation of project tools and training packages.
    • Deliver regular technical protection trainings on thematic areas including  protection and humanitarian principles, introduction to protection, protection mainstreaming, PSEA, and GBV to IOM staff and partners.
    • Deliver programmatic trainings to IOM Protection teams on IOM project tools including guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
  1. Ensure protection activities are implemented in coordination with other IOM sectors.
  2. Support the Protection Coordinator by interpreting, analysing, and advising on relevant legal frameworks, policies, and practices that are relevant to the work of the CSU.
  3. Support the Protection Coordinator by engaging with relevant government institutions, civil society organisations, and other partners (when specifically requested to do so).
  4. Support the design and development of technical protection interventions targeting at risk and vulnerable populations, including by managing protection assessments where appropriate.
  5. Support the development of strategic Protection focused documents, as well as
  6. facilitating consultations and workshops and translation of key materials.
  7. Provide technical support to other technical sectors where necessary and appropriate.
  8. Ensure gender and protection are mainstreamed during the implementation of protection activities.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education

 

  • Master’s degree in law or social sciences an accredited academic institution
  • University degree in law or social sciences from an accredited academic with minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

 

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working in the humanitarian protection sector
  • Experience working directly with beneficiaries in field locations
  • Experiences in delivering programmatic trainings and workshops
  • Experience in supervising the development and implementation of protection activities
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in the Protection sector.
  • Experience in case management, protection monitoring, or other protection programming (required).
  • Experience in delivering Protection trainings to internal and external audiences (required).
  • Good written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties (required).
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills (required).
  • Flexibility in working overtime when needed (required).
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel) (required).

 

 

 

 

 

Languages

 

  • English, Kurdish and Arabic are required.
  • Any other language is an advantage.
