JOB OVERVIEW
IRC in Dallas’ New Roots Program seeks to support clients’ immediate food security needs and ensure long-term nutritional stability. The New Roots Assistant will work as part of a team to implement the Making Food Accessible project, an initiative aimed at building knowledge and skills so clients can better navigate their local food system and live in food secure households. The New Roots Assistant will work with clients, both one-on-one and in groups, to identify barriers to accessing nutritious, culturally appropriate foods. The New Roots Assistant will provide coaching to enhance the food system and nutritional knowledge of clients to achieve increased levels of food security.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with receiving client referrals and conduct initial client assessments, identify barriers to food access or overall health, set goals, provide one-on-one food system coaching, and maintain regular follow ups as needed
Work with IRC and third-party interpreters to communicate with clients
Conduct emergency food deliveries for food insecure clients
Support the New Roots Specialist to deliver group instruction in food navigation and nutrition, both in-person and remotely, as necessary
Track client participation data in Excel, Microsoft Forms, and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) client tracking software
Create visual, audio and interactive learning tools
Participate in training and professional development relevant to the role
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate degree or some college is preferred
Minimum of 1 year relevant work or classroom experience in nutrition, health, and/or human services field(s)
Experience with the education and/or nutrition programming
Previous experience working with refugees or immigrants preferred
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required
Fluency in Arabic, Rohingya, Dari, Burmese, Kiswahili, Nepali or other languages and cultures of the local refugee population is strongly preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Effective, professional presentation skills
Proficient in general office software programs, e.g., MS Office suite, email, internet applications and relational databases
Experience with client tracking software, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), is a strong plus;
Proficient in media platforms and media editing software is a plus
Proven ability to work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment
Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and complete work in a fast-paced environment
Valid driver’s license, reliable access to vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standard office work environment combined with considerable time in the field and in neighborhoods where clients live and work.
Travel in and around the Dallas metro area to facilitate service delivery, build community relationships and represent the IRC with community partners.
Staff work remotely on a part-time to full-time basis per current office COVID safety protocols
Hours outside of typical office hours required at times.
