Finance Assistant



Background:

 

CHF Internationals’ Office of Humanitarian Assistance (OHA) has developed a strategy for the organization’s response to the Syria crisis, anchored in a field presence.  Specifically, OHA is commencing responding directly in Syria, intensifying CHF’s assistance to Syrian IDP’s. This will be done through an approach to programming where projects will be focused on the sustainability rather than relief delivery. CHF international is a fully registered organization in Iraq and is currently building its humanitarian response professionals in Iraq. CHF is seeking to hire a full-time Finance Assistant based in Duhok, KRI.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Finance Assistant is responsible for the following:

 

  • Prepare day-to-day accounting entries and financial management functions in the Duhok office and NE Syria offices to ensure all tasks performed in accordance with CHF policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and record all payments from the local bank accounts, organize bank transfer for the payments.
  • Review coding for correct GL accounts and cost center allocation in QuickBooks.
  • Participate in monthly closure activities, preparing accruals and the amortization for the prepaid expenses, ensure proper coding to cost centers, review the balances and reconcile accounts.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, payroll/fringe accounts at the end of the month.
  • Manage cash flow and cash projection for the sub offices.
  • Supervise cash and bank management, daily track of balances and timely preparation of reconciliations.
  • Review all documents submitted for payment to ensure proper procedures have been followed.
  • Ensure that bills and the supportive documents provided by the staff are compliant with the procedures.
  • Follow up all necessary approvals (Program Managers, Country Representative etc.) before payments.
  • Liaise and communicate with money facilitation entities to ensure cash flow to NE Syria offices and all financial transactions are done timely.
  • Prepare statutory payments and salaries.
  • Ensure maintenance of proper documentation filing system is for all financial activities.
  • Provide assistance to staff on processes and documents for: travel, advance, expense claims, document retrieval, etc.
  • Update tracking sheets as requested by the Finance Coordinator.
  • Assist with end of year preparation and procedures.
  • Any other assignment by the supervisor.

 

Education and Training

  • A university degree in accounting or equivalent or a combination of experience and education working in this sector.

 

Experience

  • Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles
  • Previous experience in financial reporting, financial data analysis or auditing is preferred.
  • Past work with international donor funded programs preferred.

 

Technical skills  

  • High analytical and reporting skills.
  • Ability to solve problems in the field with suppliers
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
  • Excellent command of excel and other database applications.
  • Computer/word processing and standard office software skills.
