About the project:
The Preserving Cultural Heritage of Minority Communities in Iraq project is a two-year project aimed to preserve the cultural heritage of religious and ethno-religious minority groups in Iraq. Yazda has partnered with Antiquities Coalition to build Yazidi capacity to preserve, document, digitize, and make accessible the intangible heritage of their community and promote the survival of the living Yazidi culture in its many forms.

About the person:

The Content Curator and Translator is responsible for guiding the creation of content of Yazidi intangible cultural heritage to be documented and preserved. In addition, this person will be responsible for translating and subtitling content into different languages (Kurdish, Aarbic and English).


Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Content Curator and Translator is expected to fulfil the following duties:

Content curation 50%
– Sorting and organizing, and structuring content so that it is as accessible as possible

– Recognize compelling content with a high potential to engage users

– Monitoring and evaluating how viewers interact with the content

– Cataloguing content in the database system

– Assisting the Video Producer to edit videos and collect footage
– Organize and facilitate screening events in Duhok and Nineveh governorates

Translation, transcribing and subtitling 50%

– Translate documents, video and audio files and ensure strict adherence to the meaning and formatting of the original documents

– Transcribe interviews

– Subtitling video content into Kurdish, English and Arabic

– Provide interpretation between Yazda staff and project partners

Technical and personal competencies:
– Be creative, but also be process driven so you can push the newly created Production team forward

– Proficiency in oral and written English, Arabic and Kurmanji, especially the Shingali dialect is a must: Oral and written tests will be conducted during the interviews
– Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Yazidi cultural heritage

– Be comfortable working with video content

– Good computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel

– Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility, responsibility, integrity, team work, self-motivated, preparedness to work outside office hours.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in a relevant subject is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with video and editing is desirable.
  • Ability to organize, present and communicate messages effectively through design
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of working with cultural preservation projects.
  • Good teamworking skills.
  • Excellent research, translation and IT skills.
