Project Summary:

 

In partnership with Mercy Corps, Mercy Hands is implementing a project to promote peaceful coexistence and wellbeing for returnees and host communities in conflict-affected districts and sub-districts of Ninewa through psychosocial resilience, social cohesion, and livelihood restoration.

 

The first project’s pillar is based on the principle that the safety and wellbeing of returnees and host communities’ youth and adolescents in Ninewa is crucial to mitigate protection risks and avoid negative coping behaviors. As the second project’s pillar, once youth have positive coping skills, they are able to participate to the civic life and promote social cohesion. Also, the third project’s pillar is linked to the first pillar. The coping skills obtained through the psychosocial support activities will also allow returnees and host communities youth to absorb new skills for starting livelihood activities. Therefore, the project will focus on connecting older youth to increased livelihood opportunities. All those activities will be delivered in AYFSs (Adolescents and Youth Friendly Spaces).

 

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the AYFS Coordinator will ensure the day-to-day implementation of the project. The AYFS Coordinator, with the support of the Project Manager, will coordinate and oversee activity implementation in the AYFS center and coordinate with relevant community actors and service providers in the project location. The location of AYFS center will be based in Sinjar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Project management

  • With support from the Project Manager and according to the work plan, the AYFS Coordinator will ensure the implementation of the project activities in the AYFS center, incl. plan and follow-up on the team’s movements, advise the team on the project implementation, follow-up on the project indicators, report on the activities, and interact with local authorities.
  • The AYFS Coordinator will ensure that the project is delivered according to the curriculum that was designed, and that the team follows the instructions received during the initial training.
  • In close coordination with the logistics officer, ensure the purchase of all material needed in the center.
  • Participate in weekly / monthly reporting and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care, quality of PSS provision and reporting requirements are followed.
  • Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools and report on problems in the implementation of the program.

Coordination

  • Work alongside the Psychologist to promote the values of MHPSS services with the local authorities and other partners.
  • Support the organization of community-based activities that promote shared resilience, self-help and peer support, including capacity building workshops and support groups.
  • Encourage referral pathways and support at the community level for common mental health issues by working with teachers, religious leaders and traditional healers, and by facilitating regular coordination/case discussion meetings with these stakeholders and their corresponding health facilities.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and take proactive steps to remain informed about the available services.
  • Advocate with institutions, community and religious groups/leaders and other service providers to help beneficiaries access needed resources and services.

Other

  • Collaborate with the team to ensure that very vulnerable individuals are referred to the PSS team for the provision of PSS.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the Project Manageron any challenges in the work implementation to be addressed directly with corrective steps/measures if needed.
  • Ensure compliance with MH policies and protocols of confidentiality, respect and safety.
  • Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor.

 

Languages: Kurmandji, Arabic and excellent English skills.

Required Travel: Occasional travel between Sinjar and Erbil

 

  • Excellent English skills and very good knowledge of excel as well as a solid understanding of data and monitoring processes are a must for this position. Those skills will be assessed by oral and written examinations.
  • College or university level education in psychology, sociology, social work or mental health or Bachelor degree in the Management domain is an asset.
  • At least 2 years of prior professional experience in a similar post.
  • Fluency in Kurmandji, Arabic and English
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing professional environment with a view towards establishing administrative procedures and protocol that will ensure optimal functioning of the operation.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion.
  • Experience in training and capacity-building.
  • Experience working at the community level and with groups.
  • Proven word processing and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in stressful work environments.
  • Previous experience in database management.
  • Previous experience in monitoring and drafting reports.
  • Previous experience in HRs management.
  • Structured and organized approach.
  • Excellent communication skills
