Background:
In April 2014, Syrian NGOs working in providing humanitarian assistance realized the need for a solid and harmonized voice standing for the humanitarian violations and lack of sufficient support to the Syrian people. As a result, a constantly expanding alliance of Syrian humanitarian NGOs have been formed, currently consisting twenty NGOs. The primary mandate of Syrian NGO Alliance (SNA) is Advocacy, and its core objectives and purpose revolves around it. SNA Advocates for the issues that affect, but not limited to, dignity, safety, security and livelihood of the Syrian people.
The Syrian NGO Alliance is a voluntary body, governed by membership criteria that complies with international humanitarian standards. SNA aims to effectively participate in decision making for a better effective, qualitative, equitable and efficient humanitarian response. The purpose is to provide a joint platform for SNGOs to collaborate and build consensus about the strategic issues confronting Syria Humanitarian Response. The SNA aspires to be an inclusive, representative and independent alliance that is out in front on key humanitarian issues and recognized as a leading actor in the humanitarian community for Syria, helping to enable a functional, integrated structured response that better identifies and serves the most vulnerable.
The core function of the SNA is to facilitate coordination among members by: (a) Identifying strategic issues, (b) Advocating for common positions with a unified and consistent voice to influence policy and decision making, (c) Sharing information, and (d) Engaging and Representing the alliance with external stakeholders at all levels.
Job Overview:
The Media and Admin Officer will work closely with the SNA Coordinator to represent SNA to the media. Respond to enquiries from journalists, write press releases, try to interest journalists in SNA’s stories and campaigns, arrange for spokespeople to speak to the press, and monitor media coverage, and involving in coordination and implementation of office admin related procedures.
Major Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the SNA Coordinator, the Media and Admin Officer will perform the following duties, and undertake other responsibilities as may be agreed:
Liaison:
● Supporting the SNA to help in any transactions, paperwork or meetings with Turkey government
● Building a list of contacts in Turkish MoH, MoFA, MoI AFFAD, TRC and other Turkish authorities and NGOs.
● Manage SNA Liaison Group.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Media:
● Maintain social media’s platforms.
● Keep SNA website updated.
● Managing campaigns for social media use according to the Media scheduler and for emergency events.
● Support Syria related campaigns, with media materials and key messages.
● Design brochures, promotional materials, videos related to project as required, which must be signed off by the relevant management personnel using SNA high quality logos and branding guidelines.
● Prepare Media Annual Report.
● Developing media contacts.
● Monitoring media coverage.
● Generating ideas to gain more media coverage
Administrative support:
● Communicate with SNA partners to collect major issues and advocacy needs which will be shared with SNA who will prioritize urgent issue for advocacy accordingly.
● Ensure equipment is maintained in working order, arrange servicing and repairs, order stationery and supplies as required.
● Word processing, audio and copy typing and letters writing.
● Creating and maintaining Records Keeping System.
● Booking rooms and conference facilities.
● Managing and maintaining budgets, as well as invoicing.
● Sorting and distributing incoming post and organizing and sending outgoing post.
● Liaising with colleagues and external contacts to book travel and accommodation.
● Arranging in-house and external events.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Key Working Relationships:
● Position reports to: SNA Coordinator.
● Position directly supervises: N/A
Job Requirements:
Please note this a national position with a local contract, applicants are preferred to have Turkish citizenship and female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Education:
University degree related to public relations.
Work Experience:
● Previous experience in similar positions in NGOs in Turkey.
● Minimum 2 years practical experience of close relationship with key stakeholders in the government departments at various levels;
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
● Self-Motivated and Team Player.
● Demonstrated experience in the Syria humanitarian context.
● Extensive Experience of political analysis and analytical reports;
● Promote and model a positive, professional and respectful office culture.
● Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
● An excellent working knowledge of IT and all applications relating to communications (adobe photoshop – Adobe Premiere Pro – Adobe After Effects – Adobe Illustrator).
● Strong interpersonal, intercultural and organizational skills;
● Capacity to innovate and solve problem.
● Ability to work in a team and to sometimes tight deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
● The ability to work using own initiative
● Language: fluent in English, Arabic and Turkish are an asset
