Junior Agriculture Expert

Cesvi is an Italian NGO working for global solidarity. Cesvi operates worldwide to support the most vulnerable populations in promoting human rights and achieving their ambitions, for sustainable development.

Cesvi has been working in the Kurdish Region of Iraq since 2018, focusing on the sectors of livelihoods, multi-purpose cash assistance, and social cohesion.

Through the AICS-funded project RISE – Re-start and Improve Sustainable Economic opportunities for vulnerable refugees, IDPs, and host communities in KRI, CESVI will support the most vulnerable sections of the population such as displaced persons, refugees, and host communities, facilitating access to paid employment and regular income.

The project aims at providing Cash for Work for in camp IDPs and establishing agricultural-based income-generating activities (IGAs), supporting their linkage with the market. It also supports the establishment/strengthening of micro business activities and provides job placement for vulnerable youth.

The target areas of agriculture IGAs establishment is Erbil Governorate, in particular, Qushtapa refugees camp and Gazna Village (Baharka) and Gawilan refugees camp in Duhok Governorate.

The Junior Agriculture Expert will work within the framework of the above-mentioned project.

 

The collaboration will start 15^th of October 2021. The salary range is $1,000 to $1,400.

 

 

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Junior Agricultural Expert will be responsible for:

• Organize and follow up the greenhouse’s production of the Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in Gazna, Qushtapa camp, and Gawilan camp.
• Organizes and facilitates agriculture training in fruit and vegetable production and processing, flower and plant cultivation, nursery care and management, marketing, and product presentation.
• Support the IGAs to link with the market.
• Provide inputs to Project Manager for the procurements process of irrigation system, greenhouses, agricultural inputs;
• Contribute to reporting, project tool preparation, and project designs under the supervision of the Project Manager.
• Provide technical support and identify training needs in the agricultural sector based on the request of the Project stakeholders.
• Provide technical contribution for the development of agriculture and food security-related project proposals.

The Junior Agricultural Expert field work will be in Qushtapa, Gazna and Gawilan, in Erbil and Duhok Governorate. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge/Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor degree in Horticulture/Agronomy, Agricultural Education and Extension or Related
• Minimum three (3) years of work experience in a similar position with national or international NGOs is a competency asset
• Proven capacity to prepare and conduct training on agronomy for beneficiaries
• Working experience in the development/humanitarian sector
• Experience in vegetable production and greenhouse production is a competency asset
• Excellent computer skills especially with MS Word and Excel and presentation related packages

• Excellent writing and organizational skills, with high attention to details
• Excellent verbal, presentation, and listening communications skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and an outgoing personality
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, willingness to collaborate in problem-solving
• Fluency in English, Arabic, and Kurdish languages is required
• Valid driving license and the ability to drive a car
