Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be under the supervision of the Livelihood Director, who is based in Baghdad, and will implement a livelihoods project in Salah Al-Din in the districts of Al-Shirqat. She/he will focal communication point with the donor, attend all project related meetings, including cluster and coordination meetings, taking place in Salah Al-Din. With regards to livelihoods, we are looking for someone with strong knowledge in cash for work, business grant implementation and management, understand the irrigation infrastructure and diverse trainings including vocational training.

Major Duties

  • Supervise team members and oversee activity implementation in target region
  • Ensure effective activity planning and quality implementation according to project strategy, proposal, plans and budgets
  • Provide technical support (livelihoods) and guidance to team
  • Maintain transparent and clear communication with Livelihood Director and upper management to ensure efficient coordination between field office, regional office and headquarters
  • Develop and maintain good relations with the UNDP and other donors, persons of concern, relevant stakeholders and other humanitarian actors to support adequate implementation and coordination
  • Draft and update the work plan on a regular basis as agreed with program manager
  • Represent MH at meetings with partners and other relevant technical coordination meetings in Salah Al-Din
  • Capacity-building and management of the field team
  • Coordinate the team to ensure that targets are being met in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all reporting is done up to standard and submitted on time
  • Identify and address gaps in program implementation
  • Work with the Senior Finance Officer to manage and monitor programs’ budget; ensure timely submission of financial reports and documents
  • Ensure that the entire team in the project location follows all MH safeguarding and accountability policies and immediately report any non-compliance
  • Coordinate with other Mercy Hands staff based in Salah Al-Din

Additional duties

  • Send publishable program materials to MH PR department
  • Attend manager’s meetings when requested
  • Prepare all documents in a timely manner for external auditing or spot-checking

  • Salary range: 1,800 USD (current), 2000 USD/per month (pending donors approve)

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Competitive experience/ skills in relevant area – 3 years minimum of experience in project management; additional experience in thematically relevant areas is a distinct advantage
  • Experience in humanitarian work and NGO /INGOs sector
  • Thorough knowledge of the local context through demonstrated previous experience in Salah Al-Din
  • Languages: Arabic (native) and English (fluent, spoken and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Flexibility and pro-active attitude
  • Leadership capabilities and aptitude in decision-making
  • Networking skills
  • Reporting skills
