Description
About the person: The Community Teaching Coordinator will provide the support needed to reestablish Tîrêja Rojê (“Ray of the Sun”), an educational project designed to preserve Yazidi intangible cultural heritage. This person will coordinate regular presentations in which the custodians of Yazidi oral tradition can transmit their knowledge to younger generations, who will be empowered to acquire and memorize sacred stories, poems, and songs. The Community Teaching Coordinator will logistically empower traditional teachers to lead these sessions, but the teachers themselves will determine the format and content of their lessons. The Community Teaching Coordinator will also initiate opportunities on behalf of the newly created production team who will conduct detailed interviews with Yazidi elders and bearers of oral tradition to record their knowledge for posterity. Duties and responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Community Teaching Coordinator is expected to fulfil the following duties: – Recruit teachers to participate in Tîrêja Rojê from among knowledgeable Yazidi men of religion and provide them with assistance and support as they plan and execute their classes – Organize regular classes and sessions in which Yazidi traditional teachers provide lessons and instruction in Yazidi tradition – Promote a sense of value regarding Yazidi oral tradition within the community – Schedule and promote Tîrêja Rojê activities and presentations – Secure temporary and permanent venues for classes – Ensure that venues are properly prepared, maintained, and provided with needed fixtures, equipment, and supplies – Offer coordination between documentation production teams and Tîrêja Rojê instructors when special recording sessions occur – Collaborate with the Finance and Logistics Departments in order to implement activities, including raising Purchase Requests (PR) – Monitor and report on project activities – Provide refreshments during presentations and assist Yazidi traditional teachers with ad hoc requests

Technical and personal competencies:
- A deep appreciation and respect for Yazidi culture, heritage, and oral religious tradition
- Knowledge of Sinjar area, both North and South sides
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead collaborative working relationships with a diverse group of relevant stakeholders
- Fluent in Kurdish (Kurmanji) language and English and good understanding of Arabic
- Ability to work within a team and autonomously
