WORK DAY: 7 hours per day; 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; temporary position ending approximately December 10, 2021

WORK CALENDAR: 178 duty days per year. Refer to the attached work calendar in the lower right corner of this posting.

CLASSIFICATION: B-2-2

SALARY: $19.50 per hour

Job Summary:
Facilitates communication between staff and students.

Serves as a liaison between home and school.

Assists in the classroom by explaining concepts in the native language, provides tutoring, and offers cultural information to the schools.

Assists ESOL students in the EL and mainstream classrooms by interpreting lessons and assignments, explaining key concepts in the native language, and tutoring individually and in small groups.

Interpret at parent-teacher conferences, Special Education meetings, home visits, emergency meetings, and school and district-wide meetings.

Encourage parent involvement and awareness by translating district correspondence and making follow-up calls to clarify correspondence.

Serve as a cultural resource for district staff and students and for the community.

Assist EL families by explaining district policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Assist new EL families with the registration process by interpreting the registration forms and helping with their completion.

Assisting with registration for food services and transportation, and explaining school district policies and requirements for graduation.

Qualifications:
Bilingual and bicultural.

Fluency in Anuak including reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Strong translation skills. Interpreter/Translator certification preferred.

A high school diploma or the equivalent either from a school in the USA or from the native country.

The bilingual specialist must have fluency in both oral and written forms.

The ability to read and comprehend and/or write text of higher complexity; to verbally communicate content and/or concepts of higher complexity.

The individual must have an awareness of and a sensitivity for the cultural group he/she serves, as well as for other cultures represented in the school community.

Computer skills.

Regular, on-time attendance is required.
