The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Arizona is the only CEA accredited (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) in Arizona. CESL offers high-quality English language and teacher training programs on main campus and around the world. Currently, we are searching for an Admissions Coordinator to serve as the main point of contact for CESL admissions, including application inquiries and application processing decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Immigration
The Designated School Officer (DSO) is responsible for ensuring that non-immigrant student applicant documents comply with U.S. Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) regulations and to enforce SEVP policies to the F1 student.
Use considerable knowledge of the immigration rules and regulations to analyze immigration documents for completeness, be able to identify appropriate immigration status, analyze financial documentation and any other documents necessary to be eligible to obtain an I-20 from CESL
Perform all duties associated with DSO functions, including but not limited to: processing I-20s, transfers, extensions, deferments, terminations and creating and maintaining student records
Make independent decisions regarding application materials to create requisite immigration documents
Confer with PDSO to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with immigration regulations and CESL policies governing student immigration
Efficiently process SEVIS payments as needed with accurate and date entry on the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.
Stay up to date on all the immigration regulations and procedures in order to maintain the student records and comply with the U.S Customs and Immigration Service and the SEVP Student and Exchange Visitor Program
In conjunction with Associate Director, advise current students on immigration expectations in order to maintain their immigration records in good standing
Admissions
Manage and process all University Track Program, Evening Program, Intensive English Program, TEFL and Special Program applications. Make independent decisions regarding admissibility, appropriate admission dates and determine if additional documentation is necessary.
Review and analyze student applications and all supporting documents to determine if the student is admissible to the various CESL program
Provide students with high quality service while advising in all stages of the CESL application process, including maintaining close communication with the applicants to inform the students of the application status as well to request additional documentation to support the application, as needed
Review and approve the required documentation for the Teacher Training Program (TEFL) in D2L, including the English Proficiency requirement for international students.
Make independent decisions and prioritize application processing to ensure the highest enrollment in the different CESL programs while providing excellent customer service to the students
Work with colleagues to create and troubleshoot new admissions procedures and policies in support of the various CESL programs and develop effective admissions processes to achieve maximum efficiency
Prepare and maintain student records including the application and all the supporting documents
Maintain the University of Arizona Service Indicators up to date, in order for the CESL students to have access to Campus Health and other Campus services available to them
In conjunction with Admissions Office Specialist, complete the student records in the SASSG system to ensure that all CESL student information is available in UAccess
In conjunction with/absence of Admissions Office Specialist, participate in admissions-related intake procedures, creating and maintaining the CESL Teams intake document, and other functions including collecting student documents, checking I-94s, and serving as a point of communication
In absence of Admissions Office Specialist, provide ongoing communication with current students on matters including extensions and other inquiries
In absence of Admissions Office Specialist, provide registrar functions, including processing document requests
Student Support
Works directly with the student to provide support in the different processes related to the application process, extensions, transfers to the University of Arizona.
Oversee and communicate with potential and current students using various Social Media Platforms to maintain the students informed of different local events, deadlines and other important information pertinent to their studies
Create and maintain all bulletin boards in CESL building to keep the students up to date on activities and current University of Arizona upcoming events
Design and issue all student Identification Cards
Assist with CESL Closing Ceremony as needed
Other
Perform clerical functions associated with role
Remain current on professional developments in field
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough understanding of American higher education system and application of this knowledge to admission of international students including language proficiency, academic requirements and admissions processes
Thorough knowledge of office technologies such as email, Microsoft Office Suite, multiple databases, etc.
Ability to work in an office environment that is fast-paced and requires multi-tasking.
Incumbent must be highly organized and detail oriented
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with international students and/or English language learners
Experience living or working abroad
Fluency in a second language, preferably Mandarin, Arabic or Spanish
Experience as a DSO
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Experience working with diverse populations
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required to comply with immigration requirements for access to SEVIS
5+ years of applicable work experience
