Job Purpose

The Senior Adolescent girls’ assistant, as a team member of the IMC’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) team, will work closely with the Senior Adolescent Girls’ and GBV Officers to implement a set of interventions aimed to respond to the needs of adolescent girls in Iraq.

 

Main Responsibilities

Programs implementation

The Senior Adolescent Girls Officer is specifically responsible for the following tasks:

  • Supervise the Adolescent girls’ assistants (AGA), Adolescent girls’ focal points, and community volunteers in terms of implementing Adolescent Girls Initiative activities and providing regular technical support to maintain the quality of the implementation.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of the Adolescent girls’ initiative activities in the targeted area.
  • Jointly working with the rest of  GBV team members including (team leaders, caseworkers, Adolescent girls’ assistants, Adolescent girls’ focal points, community volunteers) in terms of addressing Adolescent girls’ needs and risks through providing technical support, learning sessions, and conducting regular meetings with staff and peer girls to monitor the progress of activities and address any challenges.
  • Work closely with the GBV team to ensure GBV responses are reflective of the needs of girls.
  • With consultations with the Snr Adolescent girls officer, recommend, participate, and put in place capacity building plans of Adolescent girls’ assistants and Adolescents girls focal points
  • Support women and girls safe space prevention workers, Focal Points, and Adolescent girls’ assistants to be able to engage with parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) in the communities the IMC works.
  • Through observation and regular evaluations, oversee and ensure the quality of activities implemented by the Adolescent girls’ focal points, Adolescent girls’ assistants, facilitators/trainers; and share information with the senior Adolescent Girls’ Officer and GBV officers in weekly meetings.
  • Draft narrative reports on Adolescent girls’ activities and indicators and contribute to GBV program grant report
  • Assist in the development and adaptation of documents, M&E and reporting tools, reference materials for girl peers, targeted girls, Adolescent girls’ focal points, Adolescent girls’ assistants, women and girls safe space prevention workers, team leaders, and social workers with support from the GBV team and Senior Adolescent girls’ officer.
  • Assist in the selection criteria and identification of mentors in collaboration with the Senior adolescent girls’ officer and Adolescent girls’ assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and contribute to the development and growth of IMC programs.

  • Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Respect the code of conduct and policies of the IMC and the standards of the GBV team.

Adhere and uphold the IMC principle and policies (integrity, accountability and service) at the respective areas of work.

 

Qualifications

Essential

Degree/ Diploma in Social Work, Women’s Studies, or another related field.

Desirable

Social science bachelor degree

Experience

  • Experience working with displaced and refugee population in Iraq preferred
  • Experience facilitating training preferred
  • The ability to work as a member of a team is essential;
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is required.
  • Ability to communicate in English and write clear and concise reports in English required

Competency

  • A clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls;
  • Demonstrated experience working with adolescent girls, including facilitating training and/or activities targeting adolescent girls.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and support other staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner;
  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to details.
  • Minimum one years’ professional experience at the supervisory level in a similar position or protection or GBV programming, preferably in an emergency context.

Other

Willingness to travel to field sites frequently and, preferably, experience working in GBV programs and in rural settings
