Patient Navigator- Spanish

Overview:
Navigators will fulfill the following functions: 1) work with patients and families in their preferred language to teach them to interact effectively with the healthcare system, specifically Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH), 2) interpret as indicated for LEP families when present at hospital encounters for navigation purposes, 3) coach providers in culturally effective communication, 4) inform system-level improvements in partnership with community clinics and Children’s. It is also expected that Patient Navigators provide cross-cultural navigation as required. Using culturally and linguistically appropriate methods, the Patient Navigator addresses barriers, such as transportation and health literacy, for target language speaking families and facilitates effective communication between target language-speaking families, their primary care physicians, Children’s health care providers, and the community. The Patient Navigator works to increase trust between families and providers, increase self-efficacy among target language speaking families accessing and navigating the health care system, and increase effective communication between Children’s providers, partner clinics, and target language speaking families. The Patient Navigator also supports the assessment, design, development, implementation and evaluation of the Patient Navigation Program.. Serves as a resource in the area of diversity, as a partner to provide consultation and support the development and implementation of solutions to meet the needs of Seattle Children’s and community and clinical partners.

Requirements

Required Education/Experience: – Written and oral proficiency in English and a target language, including but not limited to: Spanish, Amharic, Somali, Arabic, and Vietnamese. – Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology. – Knowledge of health care and social practices in the target culture and language. – Experience and demonstrated ability in providing direct services to target language speaking families. – Per the driver’s license requirement noted below, must have a driving record acceptable to Risk Management. Required Credentials: – Current Washington State driver’s license – Certified by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) as Medical Interpreter, or equivalent state or national medical certification such as Commission for Health Care Interpreters (CCHI) or National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI). Preferred: – Experience in community outreach and collaboration. – Established community relationships. – Experience in community-clinic settings. – Demonstrated knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office applications.In accordance with new Washington law for healthcare workers, Seattle Children’s requires that all staff be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 on or before October 18, 2021, or before beginning employment for start dates after October 18th.
