Job Description
The Advisor plans, coordinates, develops and manages programs and projects designed to improve and expand postal services between Canada and member countries of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Advocates for Canada’s postal interests internationally through monitoring and advising on trends in international postal relations, fostering relationships with key stakeholders and acting as official corporate representative with various international postal organizations.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Advisor, International Relations.
Represents Canada and Canada Post within various international organizations including intergovernmental, multilateral and bilateral associations. Liaises and manages the relationships with a broad network of international contacts including senior government officials, postal operators, international organizations, industry and other strategic partners to advance Canada’s and Canada Post’s interests.
Accountable for all aspects of programs and projects regarding postal services between Canada and member countries of the Universal Postal Union.
Participates in the negotiation, analysis, evaluation and execution of bilateral and multilateral agreements.
Monitors a broad range of international postal policy, regulatory and governance issues and provides expert advice to CPC executives on interpretations of international agreements and arrangements.
Advocates and promotes the strategic interests of Canada Post within various international forums and through active participation in the work of various UPU committees, work groups and/or task forces. Maintains a strong, effective network of influential contacts for purposes of lobbying member support on key matters.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
Provides expert advice to key internal stakeholders on international postal policy and developments. Manages all internal communications with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure Canada Post in-country commitments for the UPU joint workgroups are met according to established schedules.
Supports senior management in executing their responsibilities by preparing briefings and coordinating cross-functional execution of activities.
Participates in the International Relations strategy and planning process and provides input and insight on trends in internal postal governance, regulatory and policy issues.
In collaboration with International Product Management, provides focus for the integration of strategies and activities including international product offerings, financial analysis, customer service, legal and operational elements, in order to advance Canada Post’s international priorities and objectives.
Conducts business in a manner that reflects Corporate Values and Leadership Behavior’s and Habits. Fosters meaningful relationships, founded in trust, respect and mutual understanding aligned with corporate strategy, international postal interests and commitments.
Qualifications
Education
- Completed post-secondary program, preferably in a related field (international affairs/relations, business, public administration, or other) OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of related experience, primarily in International Relations, Product, Marketing, or regulatory environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively managing relations to influence outcomes in support of corporate strategies and objectives.
- Past work experience in preparing business cases, presentations, and briefings for executive review and decision-making purposes.
- Experience managing projects, and representing and communicating positions on behalf of others.
- Past work experience in a political, commercial and/or cultural capacity outside of Canada or in a multilateral context, preferably in the European region would be considered a strong asset.
Other Candidate Requirements
- An established internal peer network across product management, operations, customer service, finance and IT would be considered an asset.
- Strong written and spoken communication in English and French is considered essential. Knowledge of other languages would be considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of the logistics/parcel marketplace and competitors’ role in it would be considered a strong asset.
- Ability to interpret and analyze information, using such analysis to build positions or support views.
- Knowledge of international postal convention, regulations and agreements would be considered a strong asset.
- Professional designations, particularly in Accounting, Finance or Logistics would be considered a strong asset.
- The knowledge of an additional language, particularly Spanish, or Arabic would be considered a strong asset.
