Position Highlights The Arabic Flagship Lecturer will contribute to the established University of Arizona Arabic Program by primarily providing group and individualized Arabic instruction at all levels and supporting co-curricular activities. The program contains an Arabic Flagship program which brings undergraduates from diverse majors to professional proficiency in Arabic (ILR3) through a variety of in and out-of-class activities. This is a position with primary responsibility in instructional activities and is contingent upon the availability of grant funds and performance.
This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching Arabic as a foreign language and content courses at all levels in groups or one-on-one
Designing instructional materials including instructional technology
Conducting regular proficiency assessment of students
Preparing students for standardized proficiency assessment in speaking, reading, listening, and writing
Contributing to co-curricular activities and cultural enrichment in the program
Collaborating with Arabic Flagship instructional team on instructional, curricular, and student matters
Assisting with recruitment and outreach and performing other related tasks as needed
Required to teach a 3/3 load, plus service; effort is to equal a full-time position. Teaching and service will vary based on the needs of the unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree; areas of specialization may be in language acquisition and pedagogy, linguistics, literature education or a related field.
Possess native or near-native fluency in Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic and at least one dialect)
Demonstrate experience in teaching Arabic at all levels including one or more dialects
Possess experience teaching using the proficiency approach and the latest approaches to classroom instruction, curriculum design, and material development
Possess experience working with innovative instructional technology
Have experience working collaboratively within instructional teams in academic settings
Possess experience teaching Arabic to college-level students
Preferred Qualifications • Experience teaching in a Flagship or Project GO program in the US or abroad
- Experience designing and/or teaching content courses to advanced learners of Arabic
- Be an ACTFL OPI-certified tester
- PhD, areas of specialization may be in language acquisition and pedagogy, linguistics, literature education or related field.
