Arabic Language Camp Administrative Support (Summer 2021, residential)

BUSINESS MANAGER:

  • Assist in the time-sensitive task of completing electronic I-9 forms and following up on I-9 tentative non-confirmations with the Staffing Department.
  • Confirm arrival dates of staff who arrive after orientation with the Staffing Department.
  • Maintain travel records and documents for villagers, ensure on-site compliance with travel plans.
  • Manage purchasing systems and maintain records of all expenses.
  • Maintain villager attendance lists and assist with cabin assignments.
  • Answer the telephone and service as Village receptionist.
  • Drive villagers and staff in Village van and/or car when necessary.
  • Oversee Village bank and stores, including inventories of Village currency, candy, snacks, clothing and realia.
  • Manage lost-and-found items.
  • Assist with other aspects of Village life as duties allow and as directed by the dean.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the dean and leadership staff.

Compensation

$345 per week*, plus room and board.

ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGER:

  • Assist the business manager in completing business manager responsibilities (see business manager position description), as designated by the dean or business manager; duties vary by Village
  • Assume responsibility for counseling and teaching duties as designated (see counselor position description)

$255 per week*, plus room and board.

SUMMER STAFF ORIENTATION COORDINATOR:

  • Assist in making summer staff participating in orientation feel welcome and supported
  • Assist in planning for the logistics of SSO, including housing, program space and audio visual needs, meals and transportation
  • Assist in coordinating on-site SSO activities, including registration and closing
  • Provide on-site assistance during SSO, to directors and staff
  • Assist in compiling statistics for staff evaluations of all presentations and overall reactions to SSO

Compensation

$370 per week, plus room and board

SUMMER STAFF ORIENTATION ASSISTANT:

  • Assist in planning for the logistics of SSO, including housing, program space and audio visual needs, meals and transportation
  • Assist in making summer staff participating in orientation feel welcome and supported
  • Assist in coordinating on-site SSO activities, including registration and closing
  • Provide on-site assistance during SSO, to directors and staff
  • Assist in compiling statistics for staff evaluations of all presentations and overall reactions to SSO
  • Assist in developing SSO schedules and scripts in coordination with objectives established by the deans’ council

Compensation

starting at $310 per week, plus room and board

  • Stipend for orientation is equivalent to one week of pay.

General Responsibilities of All Positions:

  • Be familiar with and abide by specific policies set forth in the “Personnel Policies,” which are designated by Concordia Language Villages administration and individual Village deans.
  • Read and become familiar with the responsibilities for your specific area of assignment.
  • After receiving your Staff Handbook and other material from the Village dean, read all information carefully and thoroughly before arriving at the Village.
  • Be advised the entire staff of each Village is under the direction of and is responsible to the dean. While some positions are supervised by other staff, the dean retains ultimate authority and responsibility for the Village.
  • All positions involve teaching language culture, with the exception of summer support positions (e.g. culinary arts, health care, transportation)
  • Report to orientation prior to your first session as designated by your staff agreement.
  • Assist with setting up the Village, preparing for the next session, and maintaining the Village throughout the session.
  • Speak the target language with villagers and staff members as much as possible.
  • Work outdoors for a significant part of each day
  • Live in community living arrangements, assigned according to gender. Nearly all positions include living, sleeping and sharing communal bathroom facilities in a unit with villagers (participants); positions that do not include living with villagers do include living with other staff members
  • Model standards for behavior and be sensitive to the health and welfare of the villagers.
  • Remain one day after your final session for cleanup, inventory and evaluation of the program.

Minimum Qualifications

BUSINESS MANAGER:

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong record-keeping skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Major in business or equivalent experience, preferred
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in the Village language, preferred
  • Previous Concordia Language Villages or other camp experience (residential or day only), preferred

ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGER:

  • Minimum age 18
  • Business-related major or equivalent experience
  • Experience with word processing, computers, office machines, filing, bookkeeping, etc.
  • Oral proficiency in the language
  • Record-keeping skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong communications skills in English

SUMMER STAFF ORIENTATION COORDINATOR & ASSISTANT:

  • minimum age 18
  • Completion of first year in college or international equivalent
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and solve problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with young people
  • Enjoy living and working in a rustic setting

Ability to assist villagers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, injury); possess strength, physical ability, and endurance to maintain constant supervision of villagers; observe villager behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques; possess visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the cabin group.

… of Business Manager:
Ability to use a computer; use a telephone; order supplies; drive a van and complete errands in town; carry and load supplies; maintain Village record system.

… of positions related to supervision (Assistant Dean, Credit Curriculum Facilitator, Two-week Curriculum Facilitator, Staff Counselor, Waterfront Manager, Head Cook. The following positions may require supervising staff: Business Manager and Nurse.):

Ability to train staff; observe staff and villager behavior; see and respond to hazards; work with different age and skill levels; plan, conduct and evaluate designated activities; observe, assess, and coach the work efforts of staff being supervised; use a telephone.
