Arabic Translator/Sr. Translator/Reviser – CSF

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Section Chief, the candidate will provide accurate, timely and stylistically appropriate translations from English into Arabic, using word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including CAT tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Translate, mostly without revision, texts covering the full range of Fund documents and publications.

2. Identify and research points of terminology, language and subject matter in the course of assignments.

3. Perform well-targeted internet and textbook search and/or consult with authors and other experts to clarify ambiguities.

4. Contribute to updating and maintaining the terminology database and related reference material.

5. Guide and assist freelance translators on Fund-specific concepts, specialized terminology and house style and conventions for Arabic usage.

6. Assist in the daily management of the Section, as assigned.

7. Revise/review Arabic translations done by freelancers.

8. Perform other related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, the candidates must have the following:

A: Qualification

A degree from a university or an institution of equivalent status, preferably in a language-related discipline, economics, and/or law.

B. Professional experience and knowledge

1. Considerable professional experience (preferably ten years) in translating economic and financial texts of a difficult and complex nature for a government, a large-scale private organization, or an international organization.

2. Reasonable experience in revising the work of other translators.

3. Ability to translate from other UN languages into Arabic is a plus

C. Competencies

1. Professionalism: Advanced analytical, writing and translation skills. Proven ability to produce, within the established deadlines, translations and revisions that meet high standards of accuracy and consistency and retain the sense, style and register of the original text. Ability to deliver within the assigned deadline, while complying with Language Services quality standards.

2. Technology: Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

3. Continuous Learning: Keep abreast of new developments in the translation field, e.g. CAT tools, translation memories and related innovations. Commitment to pursuing in-service training and self-development.

4. Planning and organizing: Ability to work efficiently under pressure. Ability to identify and reshuffle priorities and plan for timely delivery.

5. Teamwork : Strong interpersonal skills . Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team. Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multinational environment.

D. Languages

Arabic as a mother tongue, and excellent knowledge of English.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

Successful shortlisted candidates will be required to take a translation test and have an interview.
