Summary of the Position:
The Communications Associate for Youth Engagement serves as the daily focal point for communications on Women Deliver’s Youth Engagement portfolio, which includes the award-winning Young Leaders Program and the organization’s normative work on meaningful youth engagement. The Communications Associate reports to the Director of Communications with a dotted line to the Senior Manager for Youth Engagement.

Accountabilities:
External Communications:
Creates blogs, op-eds, and other content to elevate the efforts of Young Leaders working to advance gender equality

Works closely with the Digital Associate to generate content and campaigns for Women Deliver’s youth and social media properties, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn

Reviews quarterly update submissions from Young Leaders and shortlists updates with strong content potential in the Young Leader Storybank, a repository of updates from Young Leaders

Connects Young Leaders to media opportunities from partners and media organizations; works with Director of Communications to ensure Young Leaders are integrated in proactive pitching efforts

Works closely with Senior Associate for Grants on storytelling efforts

Supports Youth senior focal and Young Leaders with messaging ahead of key advocacy priorities

Updates Youth sections of the Women Deliver website, including refreshing the youth webpages as needed

Works with external vendors to revamp Alumni bio pages and update Young Leader bio pages

Serves as project manager for communications efforts for recruitment and announcement of the next class of Young Leaders

Supports drafting and copyediting for key editorial pieces, organizational newsletters, and publications related to Youth Engagement

Supports strategic communications needs for various Young Leaders Program elements, including Digital University, Speakers Bureau, Multi-Country Workshops, and Grants, and moments such as the next Young Leader Program Class recruitment and announcement, International Youth Day, and the Women Deliver Conference in 2023

Capacity-building:
Builds communications capacity of Young Leaders through Digital University media and communications module and webinars

Creates or co-creates skills-building and knowledge-sharing sessions for virtual (and in-person post-COVID-19) multi-country workshops

Supports Young Leader grantees with communications-related orientation

Other:
Supports youth communications for Women Deliver Global Conference, including working with Youth Engagement and Conference and Convenings teams on conceptualizing and design of programming; media training support to Young Leaders, and media matching.

Manages communications needs such photography and supports design for Youth Engagement events, including Young Leader Multi-Country Workshops and external side events.

Supports projects plans, timelines, and budgets

Organizes and attends meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events, as requested

Supervises interns and consultants, as needed

Contributes to Women Deliver’s organization-wide transformation efforts to become an organization rooted in anti-racist and anti-colonial principles

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:
BA/BS in related field such as communications, journalism, international affairs, public health, human rights, or gender studies

2-4 years of media/communications experience in an NGO, UN agency, a communications agency, a media outlet, or corporation

Expertise in sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, gender equality, and/or youth engagement

Experience with WordPress and MailChimp a plus

Proven ability to work effectively with communications consultants and vendors on creative outputs across multiple platforms

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong project coordination skills

Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and work

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistently delivering excellent-quality work

Experience working with partners and coalitions on the development and execution of communications strategies and deliverables

Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems

Commitment to working with humility with advocates across world, many from historically marginalized groups

Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, if needed

International language skills, particularly Spanish, French, and/or Arabic is a plus

Lived or work experience in a Low to Middle Income country (LMIC) would be preferred

Must be eligible work in the United States without sponsorship
