Background

As UNHCR’s child protection partner, STEP’s Mobile Team project aim is to strengthen the protection of vulnerable children. STEP provides child protection case management services for vulnerable IDP and refugee children. It also provides PSS (psychosocial support) for children and families as well as awareness sessions. To strengthen the protection of children, STEP trains government staff and other NGO staff on child protection approaches.

STEP is looking for Child Protection Identification/ Verification Worker to be based in UNHCR registration offices. The mentioned position will be responsible for ensuring that all children with specific needs i.e. unaccompanied minors and separated children are identified during the registration process, and whenever necessary, referred to case management/PSS services within STEP. The incumbent is to be also responsible for the verification of children with specific needs (UASC, other children at risk) initially identified by UNHCR Registration Unit or by Step/child Protection staff.

Scope of Work

A Child Protection Identification/ Verification Worker will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in close coordination with UNHCR Registration staff at Arbat Refugee Camp or Sulaymaniyah office ,to organize the necessary identification of children at risk/children with specific needs and verify and record relevant Specific Needs Codes (SNC) on ProGres V4, either directly or through UNHCR Focal Point.
  • Verify Children with Specific Needs/Children at Risk initially identified by UNHCR Registration Unit by consulting relevant SNC System Views on ProGres V4 – either by using ProGres V4 directly or through UNHCR Focal Point.
  • Through a joint physical verification process (house-to-house visits), verify and update the CP Specific Needs Codes of refugee children residing at Arbat Refugee Camp on ProGres V4
  • Flexibility in performing any other activities agreed upon with the management.
  • Send daily, monthly and ad hoc reports to the Project Manager and Assisting Manager.
  • Refer cases of children at risk and coordinate for conducting BIAs for registration purposes.
  • Participate in Mobile Team’s meetings when necessary.
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time by management

Degree of Qualifications and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree or institution degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the field of protection (preferably child protection).
  • Knowledge of child protection is desirable.
  • Ability to speak Arabic fluently. Kurmanji is desirable.
  • Good verbal and written English.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new tools and programs such as ProGres V4.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understand and will adhere to confidentiality.
  • Is accurate and fast in learning.
  • Ability to conduct interviews with children and families.
  • Committed to STEP’s mission and vision.

 

 Reporting, Supervision, and Performance Evaluation

  • The Child Protection Identification/ Verification Worker will report to the Project Manager
  • The Child Protection Identification/ Verification Worker will be supervised by the Project Manager.
  • The performance will be evaluated by the Project Manager.
