Mandated by the communion of the LWF to carry out effective and empowering programing addressing human sufferings, injustice and emergencies, LWF World Service works with and for vulnerable and crisis-affected populations to achieve justice, peace and sustainable lives.

 

LWF Iraq has worked in Northern Iraq / Iraqi Kurdistan since 2014 and has been registered with the Kurdistan Regional Government since 2015. It has offices in Dohuk and Erbil.  As an active member in WASH, Livelihood & Social Cohesion and SGBV/Protection Working Groups, LWF Iraq cooperates closely with relevant UN agencies, other INGOs, local NGOs and local authorities. All LWF Iraq ongoing programs in the field of WASH, Protection (PSS), Peace-building and Livelihoods contribute to the Iraq Humanitarian Response Plan and comply with the Core Humanitarian Standard. LWF currently implements activities in the areas of Dohuk and Nineveh Governorates. Through partners, LWF Iraq has reached Salah Al-Din, Bagdad and Anbar Governorates serving IDPs, returnees and host communities in and outside camp settlements.

 

Scope of work:

The community facilitator effectively supports the implementation of project activities by establishing strong links with communities and relevant stakeholder in the project area and ensure that field teams have smooth access to relevant locations.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

Support implementation and cooperation with relevant stakeholders

  • Collect focal point details (Mukthars, community leaders, key farmer etc.) in the target locations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with affected communities on LWF activities in the area.
  • Act as a focal point for the communities and establish close links between LWF field staff and communities.
  • Plans and implement the project activities, established target groups as well as selected individuals.
  • Carries out standardized surveys by interviewing targeted HH`s and individuals.
  • Monitor situation in the project area and report changes in project environment to the Project associates.
  • Support field teams in negotiating access to current and potentially new project locations.
  • Conduct regular field visits with the project staff to facilitate communication with community stakeholders and groups.
  • Establish close links with all relevant stakeholders in the project area as government actors and other humanitarian agencies.
  • Gather information on activities of other humanitarian actors in the project area.
  • Provide regular updates from the field to the Data section as well as agronomist.
  • Report any incidences related to protection of returnees and host-communities to the management.
  • Report security incidences in the field in a timely manner to the management;
  • Together with the Field officers cooperate with the Security Department in security related matters.

Administrative tasks related to project activities

  • Establish and maintain a database for contacts of focal points in the project area.
  • In close collaboration with the project associates prepare permission letters for relevant activities.
  • Provide written updates on the overall situation in the project areas if changes occur.
  • Provide project staff with updated maps and map changes in access to current and potential project locations.

 

In addition to the above related responsibilities, the Community Facilitator may be asked to carry out other duties as requested by the WASH and peacebuilding officers. The position is based in Mosul but will require frequent travels to the project areas.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant qualification;
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience in a relevant field;
  • Very good understanding of the context of Kurdistan region of Iraq and Iraq’s provinces;
  • Strong ability to analyse complex situations;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to establish a broad network of contacts;
  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic is required as well as intermediate knowledge of English;
  • Able to work with Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to travel throughout Dohuk, Erbil, Ninewa, and Baghdad governorates.
  • Ability to work calmly under difficult and sometimes stressful conditions;
  • Previous experience in an international NGOs and/or institution is a strong advantage;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work and deal successfully in multi-cultural environment;
  • Committed, honest and eager to learn.
