Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is a community-based, non-profit organization serving immigrant and refugee women and their young children since 1975. We are currently looking for 2 Community Service Workers to support the program coordinator and outreach support team with client intake requests and follow-up. These two job postings will take place remotely and at our Food Hub sites, where both workers will also assist with food hub project logistics. Each candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the food hub sites (1 opening at the South Vancouver site; 1 opening at the South Burnaby site).
Work hours are as follows:
Job opening 1: South Vancouver Family Place Food Hub Site
Mondays 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Friday 1:00pm to 3:00 pm
Other hours are flexible
Job opening 2: Journey Home Burnaby Food Hub Site
Wednesdays 1:00 pm to 3:00pm
Thursdays 9:00am to 3:00pm
Other hours are flexible.
These positions will report to the Program Coordinator.
These 2 job placements are funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements as stated in the eligibility criteria section below.
Key Accountabilities
Assist Outreach support workers with the intake of clients’ needs (e.g. food aid, settlement support, basic necessities, health and medical aid, resources, and referrals)
Help source, coordinate and distribute donations to immigrant and refugee families according to intake records
Help create an intake needs assessment form and intake donation tracking system
Offer translation if needed
Support the Food Hub project with logistics and food hamper distribution to registered families
Work collaboratively with Outreach Support Workers, and food hub and program teams
Help maintain food hub site facility safety to comply with the health and safety policies and procedures
Assist with the coordination of volunteer schedules and admin work
Help greet community members and create an inclusive space
Attend weekly Outreach Support Workers meetings
Eligibility Requirements
This work experience opportunity is for youth, who must:
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Qualifications
High School Completion
Fluent in written and oral English and one other language an asset (Arabic preferred)
Proven ability to work collaboratively with ethnically and socially diverse volunteers and coworkers in a non-profit context
Proficiency with MS Office, Google Drive and Internet
Access to a vehicle is an asset
Passion for inclusivity and diversity, and interest in being part of a multicultural team
Possession of non-judgmental and genuinely positive attitudes (culture, religion, sexuality, special needs) and freedom from stereotypes
Attitudes and values compatible with the goals and philosophy of PIRS
Work Conditions
Remote work and onsite work (designated food hub location), with some travel to various locations to support work duties
This position is part time (23 week internship)
Work with participants who may have experienced trauma and who may speak little or no English
May require a moderate level of physical fitness to carry out duties of the position (including lifting and moving items up to ~10-15lbs)
