Job Purpose
Siloam Health is a multisite nonprofit health care organization which exists to share the love of Christ by serving those in need through health care. The Director of Spiritual Care is a new staff leadership position designed to oversee the direct, consultative spiritual care of Siloam’s patients, strengthen ties with local ethnic congregations, and to provide encouragement and equipping of Siloam staff and volunteers. Through a combination of modeling, equipping, and inspiring, the Director of Spiritual Care will play a vital role in realizing Siloam’s vision to empower our neighbors from all nations to lead physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy lives and to feel at home in our community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Spiritual Care
Provide compassionate, respectful, direct spiritual care to Siloam patients from diverse ethnic and faith backgrounds through consultations requested by the clinical team as well as through proactive engagement with patients in clinic
Offer regular, ongoing ministry of presence, encouragement, counsel and prayer with/for staff and volunteers
Organize or conduct periodic spiritual care trainings for patient-facing staff to improve their ability to provide quality spiritual care to patients
Work with church partners, Director of Engagement, Community Health team, volunteer pastors, and others to assist patients in connecting with local congregations for ongoing spiritual growth
Oversee and supervise leadership of regular rhythms of prayer for staff and volunteers
Program Development
Develop and grow Siloam’s program of spiritual care as a ministry to our patients and staff
Research, recommend, and implement process metrics, quality metrics, and outcome metrics that measure the effectiveness of the spiritual care referral process, the quality of these consultations, and the extent to which spiritual care consultations yield improved outcomes for patients
Contribute towards the culture and direction of the organization as a member of the Expanded Leadership Team and as staff liaison to the Spiritual Care Committee of the board
Oversee Siloam’s volunteer spiritual care department by:
Working with the Director of Engagement and Community Health team to recruit a pool of spiritual care volunteers from current church partners and churches already serving Siloam’s patient community
Vetting and training all spiritual care volunteers, including pastoral caregivers, intercessors, and spiritual directors
Participate in on-going quality improvement (QI) activities as indicated above
Qualifications
Passionate about Christian ministry to the underserved and in full agreement with Siloam’s mission and core values
Spanish or Arabic language fluency preferred (bilingual)
Experience with cross cultural ministry and using interpreters strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters level training and/or ordination preferred
Additional training in chaplaincy and/or behavioral health preferred
Demonstrated ability to work within an ecumenical, nondenominational context
Ability to listen, learn, and serve behind the scenes as a team member supporting other team members
Basic computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office products as well as electronic medical records preferred
Willingness to adhere to OSHA and confidentiality requirements
