DCA is an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) that has worked in Iraq and KRI since 2017, implementing life-saving Humanitarian Activities through Mine Clearance, Risk Education, Psychosocial Support and Child Protection activities through local partner organization.

The position is based in Erbil with frequent travel and overnight stays in other cities within Iraq (Accommodation provided)

The Driver’s primary role is to safely transport DCA staff, equipment and other materials as required and to ensure the vehicle is clean, well maintained and fit for travel. This job description should be read in conjunction to the reference document DCA Driving and Vehicle Policy.

General responsibilities:

  • Work within the framework of DCA’s core values
  • Act as an ambassador for DCA
  • Participate in meetings where relevant.
  • Work in compliance with DCA’s Policies, including but not limited to,Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct and Dignity at Work Policies.
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Drives DCA staff safely to various destinations as required.
  • Be aware of and adhere to Iraq and Kurdish traffic regulations in addition to DCA Driving and Vehicle Policy.
  • Must not drive unauthorised personnel in DCA vehicles.
  • Performs daily checks on the duty vehicle and reports any required repairs to the Operations Officer.
  • Ensures that seatbelts are used by all passenger at all times.
  • Drives in a manner that respects other road uses and ensures maximum lifespan of the vehicle.
  • Ensures the vehicle is ready for use (fuelled, clean, maintained) at all times.
  • Ensures that the vehicle and its contents are kept secure (i.e.. locked doors and closed windows).
  • Discuss necessary fuelling, maintenance and servicing activities with the Operations Officer in good time.
  • Records details of each journey and refuelling in vehicle log sheet on a daily basis.
  • Assists with small purchasing tasks as required.
  • Ensures the necessary documentation, in addition to emergency and repair equipment is always carried in the vehicle at all times.

What the organization requires:

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Strong communication skills, spoken English, Kurdish and Arabic Essential.
  • Organised and able to work under pressure
  • 5 years driving experience with previous INGO experience
  • An understanding of INGOs and a commitment to humanitarian work
  • Driver is expected to work in public holidays and weekends as per the drivers plan from the Operations department.
  • Team working.
  • DCA conducts an anti-terror check as part of the recruitment process. It is a prerequisite that you can pass this check and maintain this status throughout your employment with us.
