Background and Overview
SSORD is a non-profit, non-governmental organization focusing on humanitarian, relief, development as well as charitable activities and able to provide relief assistance to host community (vulnerable people), returnee refugees and IDPs, regardless of race, color, religion and cultural background. SSORD works in Anbar, Baghdad, Salaheldin, Najaf, Karbala, and Ninawa. The headquarter is in Baghdad with several other field offices located in areas of interventions. SSORD vision is to focus on implementing relief and development activities that benefit all vulnerable Iraqis without discrimination. The mission of the organization is to provide vulnerable communities with sustainable humanitarian services and improve their socio-economic status.
SSORD humanitarian interventions include WASH, Livelihood, Peace Building, Education, and Child Protection. Our work in Anbar, Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Salaheldin, Ninawa has resulted in hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect beneficiaries. Thanks to strong community engagement and joint planning with local authorities, SSORD has been able to maximize the cost-efficiency of its interventions and create multiplier effects for the population. In every location, SSORD has established community-based committees that are systematically consulted and involved into the planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities. Local authorities have supported SSORD’s project planning and delivery through meetings, field visits, and free of charge service delivery. SSORD is also a member of the Education, Protection, Child Protection, Livelihoods and WASH clusters at the local level. In Baghdad and Anbar governorates SSORD is registered with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and holds regular contacts with local authorities at district level.
Brief:
to provide a comprehensive response to the needs of out of school children in Anbar, SSORD will leverage their knowledge of the local context and existing networks to strengthen community-based mechanisms that support children education, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approach will rely on cooperation with education authorities, caregivers, and local volunteers.
Education team leader:
The Education Team Leader will be responsible for the education component of the project and ensure complementary with formal school education. In coordination with schools, clusters and education partners, s/he will implement non-formal education material and curricula adapted to the formal education system and to the needs of the children. S/He will facilitate the instruction of children who require additional support due to years of missed schooling through literacy and numeracy classes. In addition, s/he will support the mobilization of youth around meaningful community projects of their own choosing. S/He will also ensure the mainstreaming of Child Protection and Education in the outreach, awareness and capacity building components of the project.
The Education Team Leader will successfully implement the activities, meet indicators and create a safe environment for children to learn. S/he will provide capacity building to staff under his/her supervision to implement quality and age-appropriate education in emergencies curriculum, and provide trainings on Child Protection and INEE Minimum Standards to ensure CP mainstreaming. The Education Team Leader will be responsible for staff supervision and training, workplans and schedules, reporting, sites and material supervision. S/he will be expected to provide technical inputs into education programming.
S/he is responsible for internal and external coordination relating to the education aspects of the project within the given locations.
Key Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Advise and implement activities to mainstream gender and child protection principles in the Anbar education program.
Act as Federal Iraq Ministry of Education focal point for SSORD, including liaising with other Area Offices (AOs) to obtain
permissions, letters, communicate policies and respond to requests for information. Meet with central Ministry of Education in Anbar as requested.
Co-lead the Anbar Education Cluster and serve as liaison between SSORD and the Cluster.
Travel to implementation areas regularly to manage Directorate of Education relations.
Organize and lead trainings for incentive teachers and project staff based on technical requirements of projects (in Arabic).
Conduct Teacher Observations and Spot Checks during field visits.
Oversee the roll out of Child Safeguarding training to Anbar staff.
Follow up on Procurement and Logistics processes in Baghdad office on behalf of the Education team.
Ensure Child Protection referral pathways are put in place and utilized in areas of implementation.
Qualifications:
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Written and spoken fluency in Arabic; competent in English
Proven ability to operate in Anbar context
Knowledge of education context in Anbar; understanding of the circumstances, needs and challenges IDP/returnee children face and the sensitivity of the context
Knowledge of Gender and Child Protection and psychosocial support.
