Background and Overview
SSORD is a non-profit, non-governmental organization focusing on humanitarian, relief, development as well as charitable activities and able to provide relief assistance to host community (vulnerable people), returnee refugees and IDPs, regardless of race, color, religion and cultural background. SSORD works in Anbar, Baghdad, Salaheldin, Najaf, Karbala, and Ninawa. The headquarter is in Baghdad with several other field offices located in areas of interventions. SSORD vision is to focus on implementing relief and development activities that benefit all vulnerable Iraqis without discrimination. The mission of the organization is to provide vulnerable communities with sustainable humanitarian services and improve their socio-economic status.
SSORD humanitarian interventions include WASH, Livelihood, Peace Building, Education, and Child Protection. Our work in Anbar, Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Salaheldin, Ninawa has resulted in hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect beneficiaries. Thanks to strong community engagement and joint planning with local authorities, SSORD has been able to maximize the cost-efficiency of its interventions and create multiplier effects for the population. In every location, SSORD has established community-based committees that are systematically consulted and involved into the planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities. Local authorities have supported SSORD’s project planning and delivery through meetings, field visits, and free of charge service delivery. SSORD is also a member of the Education, Protection, Child Protection, Livelihoods and WASH clusters at the local level. In Baghdad and Anbar governorates SSORD is registered with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and holds regular contacts with local authorities at district level.
Brief:
to provide a comprehensive response to the needs of out of school children in Anbar, SSORD will leverage their knowledge of the local context and existing networks to strengthen community-based mechanisms that support children education, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approach will rely on cooperation with education authorities, caregivers, and local volunteers.
Currently, all schools are closed again due to the pandemic. SSORD continued to communicate and collect data from targeted people (students and teachers) since the last project in Anbar. SSORD has been trying to measure the impact of the previous project: understanding how students were affected by school closures, and identifing the weakness of current distance education
Educator:
The purpose of the Educator position is to oversee the day to day implementation of the education project. Team leaders will oversee all operations, supervise community mobilizers, and support project planning.
Generic responsibilities
-Adhere to SSORD policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
-Strict adherence to the SSORD Code of Conduct.
-Implement the education project according to the plan of action.
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
-Ensure proper filing of documents.
-Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
-Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills.
-Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders.
-Make decisions on the ground with limited or remote supervision.
Main tasks :
Provide children with classes
Monitor daily attendance and progresses of the children during the activities;
Collect data of the children with the purpose of monitoring and evaluating the activities (including registration, attendance, satisfaction surveys, pre-post tests)
Support team leader and Project coordinator in designing weekly/monthly working plans;
Draft brief reports of the activities;
Support and supervise the community mobilizer in their daily tasks.
-Conduct community outreach activities and engage civil society organization ensuring inclusiveness of vulnerable populations in project activities.
-Organize and lead the facilitation of support groups, focus group discussions and awareness raising sessions.
Specific responsibilities
Implement education activities under the direction of the Project Manager.
Supervise Community mobilizers and provide support to them in line with program objectives.
Develop and maintain effective filing systems, both electronic and paper.
Oversee education needs assessments at the school level.
Update and maintain effective work plans and log frames.
Organize, support, and facilitate teacher training, education personnel training, and training of trainers (ToT) training on subjects including pedagogy, teacher wellbeing, curriculum, child protection, software apps, and psycho-social support.
Participate in assessments (design, data collection, data analysis).
Ensure ongoing monitoring, tracking, and reporting of education projects.
Monitor spending and purchase requests as assigned by PM/ and ensure proper follow up with logistics and field teams.
Maintain positive work relations with teachers, headmasters, and DoE representatives.
Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Educational Psychology, or other relevant social sciences from an accredited academic university or institute.
Experience and Skills:
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in the humanitarian or development sector, of which at least 1 year involves mental health, psychosocial support, social cohesion, and capacity building programs.
Experience in capacity building for local NGOs or social programmes is a strong advantage.
Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people including people of culturally diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of community dynamics in AL anbar an asset.
Experience in social work, psychological support, protection, and social cohesion activities is an advantage.
Experience in supporting and collaborating with community service organizations and grassroot NGOs is an asset.
Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
