General Responsibilities:

Principal Responsibilities
· To provide clear and accurate spoken interpretations between NPA PjM or TFMs and non-English speaking persons to include NPA national staff, local authorities, informants, security forces, and others. · To operate in field environments facilitating the survey and clearance as a focal point for communication · Provide written translations from English to Arabic, Arabic to English, Arabic of technical NPA documents, Government letters/documents or simple administrative matters as tasked by NPA’s Project Manager, Senior Technical Field Manager or Deputy Liaison Manager. · Work in the field with the teams as an interpreter. · Drive PjM or TFM’s to field tasks or other locations. · To be flexible and prioritise tasks according to their importance. · Ensure that the driving rules of the Government of Iraq are adhered to. · Report all accidents and incidents involving staff or NPA’s equipment. · Meet all NPA’s requirements as outlined in the vehicle policy. · Any other duties as tasked by their management/superiors. |
Additional Responsibilities:
· The holder of the position is to abide by the policies set by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), the NPA Programme in Iraq and to represent the organisation in a loyal and responsible manner. · Strictly adhere to NPA’s rules regarding confidentiality of information. |
Required qualifications:
Education:
Must have:
- English Diploma and/or High school as minimum.
Desirable:
- Formal Interpreter experience
- Demining/BAC course
Experience
Must have:
- Valid Driving Licence (authorised for both manual and automatic transmission)
- Good knowledge of the area of operation.
- Verbal and written proficiency in Arabic and English.
Desirable:
- Experience in working with NGOs and mine action
- Former interpreting experience
Other qualifications:
- Good communication and understanding skills
- Computer literacy in MS Office applications
Personal Competencies:
- Good interpersonal skills with rural communities
- Able to work effectively under, and adapt to difficult conditions
- Willingness & ability to travel within the country – especially Muthanna governate
- Willing to adjust working hours because of the weather and other operational conditions
