SWEDO is a Swedish non-profit, non-political, non-religious development aid organization that was founded in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden. Having continuously operated in the Kurdistan Region ever since, SWEDO’s main priorities of work are construction and infrastructure activities, refugee and IDP initiatives, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, and capacity building.
Basra Governorate is at the intersection of overlapping drivers of crisis such as water scarcity, climate change, neglected infrastructures and raising unemployment. The impact of such drivers of crisis is exacerbated by more frequent drought, COVID19 and loss of jobs due to the drop in oil prices, resulting in food insecurity, malnutrition, water-induced displacement and further degradation of the community livelihoods and ecosystem resources
Key project activities and assets
- Rehabilitated and improved the primary and secondary water canals serving the beneficiaries;
- Created vegetable gardens for the vulnerable households, with selected salinity-resistant vegetables, with the provision of agricultural tools;
- Provided small livestock units to 750 beneficiaries;
- 750 households adopt new techniques for water saving and sustainable farming through three training activities and mentoring from joint team SWEDO-Department of Water and Irrigation;
- 750 households (approx. 395 men and 355 women) receive training to strengthen food security and nutrition by enabling the link between rural livelihoods and urban economy, livestock and vegetable food products commercialization, storage and post-harvest chain, diversification strategies and nutrition capacity building.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct frequent field visits to the project’s activity sites to collect quantitative data;
- Conduct qualitative data collection through frequent visits to the field and have focused and well-structured discussions with the beneficiaries;
- Ensure that all field-data is collected in a timely and efficient manner while emphasizing accuracy and;
- Ensure that collected data for M&E purposes are handled in the proper way and according to methods and via tools designed and implemented by M&E;
- Understand all aspects of each activity he/she monitors and identify areas of improvement and strengths;
- Ensure that activities are carried out according to policies and the correct procedures are followed throughout the time of project implementation;
- Identify any apparent issues in the program and report them to Project Officer;
- Working throughout areas of Basra Governorate;
- Research and obtain further information for incomplete documents;
- Respond to queries for information; scan documents, print files, as needed.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Bachelor Degree in Project Management or Administration;
- At least two years’ experience in the same position or monitoring field;
- Fluency in Arabic and good in English Language;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook email;
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
- possesses strong cross-cultural communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Must be organized, able to multi-task, flexible, and able to work as a team and individual;
- Be very flexible regarding time, tasks and responsibilities.
