Finance Assistant – Tel Afar

DRC has been operating in Iraq since 2003 and in Northern Iraq since 2010. It is currently implementing a broad range of activities relevant to conflict-affected communities and persons. The activities are categorized into ten sectors: Shelter and Non-food Items, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Livelihoods, Protection, Mine Risk Education, Camp Coordination, and Camp Management (CCCM).

Overall purpose of the role:

  • Provide administrative or technical support to the finance department. Carries out straight forward tasks under direct supervision and guidance of Finance Manager.

Responsibilities:
1.    Finance Tasks

  • Managing petty cash as well as cash at safe for Telafar Office.
  • Assisting Finance officer on daily financial data entry into the standardized DRC cashbooks.
  • Performing cash counts with Finance manager on daily or weekly basis.
  • Assisting in ensuring timely payment of the national staff salaries and all suppliers/partners’ invoices.
  • Assisting Finance officer finalizing cash books for submission to CO on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure daily reconciliations between the cashbooks and dynamics has been done and any discrepancies are reported to the Finance Manager with a clear plan on remedial actions.
  • Scanning vouchers and other documents of Telafar office to submit to the Country office.
  • Verifying that any transaction is supported by proper supporting documentations as per DRC’s financial rules and regulation and proper authorization is obtained prior releasing a payment.
  • In co-ordination with program team to regularly attend distribution on cash transfer programming activities.

2.    Additional Tasks

  • On request perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in a similar position.
  • Strong written and mathematical skills.
  • Good knowledge of computer skills (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience of managing and handling cash.
  • Experience of working with UN or Non-Governmental organizations

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

  • Diploma holder in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • English (fluent)
  • Kurdish (Desirable)
  • Arabic (Fluent)

Key stakeholders: (internal and external)

  • Finance Manager – North Office.
  • Finance department staff
  • Area Support Services Manager

We offer

  • Contract length: 6 months with possibility of extension subject to funds

  • Designation of duty station: Tel Afer
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
