Responsibilities:
Mentors will work with the IJNet Arabic editor and ICFJ/IJNet teams to select sixteen semi-finalists after reviewing applications. The mentors will help with advertising the opportunity through their personal network and on social media.
Assist in selection process of Mentoring Center participants.
Each mentor will be responsible for guiding four mentees.
Provide advice and direction based on the established benchmarks and goals for each of the four selected digital media entrepreneurs via regular online communications.
Complete at least one in-person meeting at least once with each of the four mentees, in order to provide them advice and direction on their projects.
Provide progress and final reports for the IJNet team.
Assist the IJNet Arabic Editor and the IJNet Manager in identifying volunteers and/or trainers to participate on panels during the two-day entrepreneurship bootcamp in Amman, Jordan.
Lead a final “virtual pitch session” with the eight mentees as a way to assess their progress and performance during the program, and select winners of seed funding.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience working in journalism in the MENA region.
Experience teaching at the university level and/or training professional journalists.
Master’s degree or higher strongly preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Fluency in Arabic and English.
Outstanding interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively, and ability to motivate high quality work from program participants.
Must be based in the MENA region.
