Intermediate Youth Worker

Introduction

Applications are invited to apply for a part-time Intermediate Youth Worker position at the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa. The incumbent will work at our Ron Kolbus Clubhouse (2825 Dumaurier Avenue). This position reports to the Clubhouse Manager.

Compensation: $14.75-$15.50 per hour

Position Overview

Responsibilities:
Direct leadership in assigned programs.

Provision of mentoring and guidance services to members as required.

Administrative record keeping and reporting for assigned programs and services.

Assisting with promotion of clubhouse programs and services.

Company

Education:
Currently enrolled in a High School, College or University program and returning to school this September. Preference will be given to applicants studying Recreation and Leisure Services or similar programs.

First Aid/CPR.

HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrated C&Y mentoring and counseling skills.

Ability to work effectively with children and youth.

Demonstrated organizational and program planning skills.

Demonstrated direct leadership skills (in program instruction capacity)

Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.

Ability to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.

Proven ability to engage children in programming activities.

Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve.

Previous experience working with youth in afterschool programs and/or summer camps considered an asset.

Experience delivering sport programs to youth considered an asset.

Multilingualism is an asset (French, Arabic or Somali).
