The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a self-motivated, outcomes-oriented individual to help promote Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector abroad. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Trade and Value-Added Branch, the International Engagement Manager will join the team responsible for coordinating international market development, trade policy and value-added activities within the Ministry of Agriculture. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating Ministry engagement with the government of Saskatchewan’s International Office Network, Canadian Trade Commissioners Service, Federal Provincial Market Engagement Teams, foreign governments and other international partners with an interest in Saskatchewan agriculture. The role may involve international travel.

The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of Canada’s agriculture sector, specifically issues and opportunities related to international trade advocacy and market development for both primary and value-added sectors. The candidate will have solid interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain diverse networks, including across Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and with a wide range of key international stakeholders.

The International Engagement Manager will be responsible for:
Leading and supporting international engagement initiatives on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, including trade commissioner engagement and development of international missions;

Providing support to the provinces expanding network of international trade and investment offices;

Collaborating with inter-ministry colleagues to advance Saskatchewan’s 2030 Growth Plan goals;

Preparing briefing material for senior leaders; and

Building strategic relationships to advance Saskatchewan’s international priorities.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be attained through a Master’s degree in international trade, business or economics, combined with several years of relevant international experience and exposure to the agriculture sector. Working-level proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, German, Spanish, French or Arabic would be an asset.
