SUMMARY: In cooperation with the Director of Student Services and Coordinator of ELL / Bilingual Programming, supports families in accessing the school environment and community resources. Also works to provide written and oral translation services to meet the needs of all students and families.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree; fluency (oral and written) in Arabic or Spanish required; ability to become/ maintain status as a State-approved Qualified Interpreter; experience working with students and families in regards to case management preferred; experience in translating written communication preferred; strong communication skills, writing, and record keeping; ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and summer hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish meaningful, working relationships with parents/family members in the home and community setting, and become acquainted with diverse family structures and cultures

  • Maintain confidentiality on all family and child information
  • Establish and maintain a schedule of parent “check-ins” and / or home-visits
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining community partnerships and refer families to resource as needed
  • Support families with school-related activities such as on-line registration, residency follow-up, free and reduced lunch applications, technology integration (Schoology and Seesaw), attendance / truancy follow-up, general communications with administration and teachers, and other areas as needed.
  • Participate and assist with family education and engagement activities, as well as parent networking meetings
  • Provide translation services to the District (written communications) and on-site, verbal translations as needed
  • Provide translation services to families and students at IEP meetings as needed
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, included that required to maintain status as a State-approved Qualified Translator
  • Organize and maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date case files
  • Other duties as assigned
