M & A Relationship Administrator

Benchmark International, recently ranked the #1 privately-owned sell-side business broker in the world, is now looking for business professionals able to reach out to and build relationships with large corporations and private equity funds seeking to acquire businesses while simultaneously learning the basics of an exciting career in mergers and acquisitions. Our Tampa office was founded in 2013. Since then, numerous team members joining the company in an entry level M&A jobs such as this have been promoted to associate roles and beyond in this and other Benchmark International offices.
The relationship administrators will be the junior members of a tight-knit team working shoulder to shoulder with both young and veteran M&A professionals so as to best ensure strong support for the role, the widest possible spread of knowledge, and direct hands-on training. As such, this is a 100% in office position with no exceptions and an exciting way to get a “first job” in M&A, learn the ins and outs of private equity, and grow with this dynamic company and team.
Job Responsibilities
The relationship administrator will both grow our data base of acquirers and deepen our relationships under the supervision of the team’s associates using email, phone, and video conferences. This involves not only collecting and updating points of contact, identifying and documenting investment criteria, uncovering the resources available to each acquirer but also ensuring that each acquirer has a firm understanding of the benefit of building a stronger relationship with Benchmark. When the team has no clients on market, the relationship manager will use our customized CRM, third-party subscription services, and other resources provided by the company to update information on our existing set of acquirers and identify new potential acquirers with whom relationships can be built. When Benchmark’s clients (i.e., business owners looking to sell their companies) come to market, the relationship manager will lean on those relationships to make introductions and move the client through the initial marketing stages of the company sale process.
All interactions will be held with similar origination and outreach specialists at these larger companies and private equity funds who greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with Benchmark and remain on our radar. We presently receive more calls and emails from these acquirers than we are able to respond to. This position does NOT involve calling consumers, selling Benchmark’s services, or dealing with complex aspects of M&A.

As a relationship administrator, you must be a highly energetic and passionate individual with a positive and highly motivated can-do attitude. You must have the strong desire and ambition to explore this rewarding industry. It is also vital for your role that you possess excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as presentation abilities.
Specific qualifications for the M&A relationship administrator include:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, or Accounting or an unrelated degree with significant work experience in one or more of these fields.
  • Experience in professional business writing.
  • Prioritization and organization skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Outlook, and Excel; Salesforce a plus.
  • Communication skills: written and verbal; delivering information in an empathetic, yet persuasive manner.
  • Proficiency with online research including proprietary sources such as Hoovers, IBISWorld, DealNexus, PrivCo, Corpfin, Pitchbook, OneSource, and First Research.
  • Commercial understanding and awareness of business.
  • Possession of a valid and current driver license.
  • Aility to consistently present yourself in a professional manner in keeping with Benchmark International’s image (as shown, for example, on the company’s web site).
  • Availability and willingness to work outside normal business hours at times, whether early or late, as required by the team’s schedules and expectations.
  • Ability to obtain a Florida real-estate sales associate license (at employer’s expense) within 60 days of employment.
  • Absence of any unfavorable history with FINRA, the SEC, or any state regulatory agency.
  • Native-level command of Spanish, French, German, Chinese, or Arabic a plus

Salary
On target annual compensation for relationship administrators is $70,000 to $85,000. Base pay is received as a bi-weekly salary (totaling $40,000 to $45,000 per year) based on experience. Additional compensation comes from bonuses for each transaction closed by the team. Bonuses are paid in the month after receipt of fees by the employer. Overall compensation can vary from year to year based on the team’s success and on target performance but is intended to increase.
Benefits
All Benchmark International positions offer paid time off, standard holidays, and community service days. Employees are eligible for highly competitive company-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and AD&D insurance; 401k with company matching; flexible spending accounts; and flexible dependent care assistance accounts. Quarterly team outings and standing desks are employee favorites at present.
Social Responsibility
Benchmark International is an active, contributing member of the communities in which we work. The company participates in significant charitable giving opportunities throughout the year. Many of the recipient charities have been identified by our individual employees as a result of their personal passions for supporting particular needs. In addition, each employee is encouraged to use two paid work days per year to provide their labor and skills to the community.
Company Overview
Benchmark International is one of the world’s leading mergers and acquisitions specialists in the sale of mid-market companies. With offices throughout the world, we are in touch with all the major acquirers and consolidators who are constantly seeking both on and off market opportunities across all sectors. The enterprise value of our transactions falls broadly within the $2 million to $500 million range, with most being between $5 million and $40 million. Our unique and dynamic international offering presents our clients with unparalleled global coverage, allowing them access through our exclusive databases and business intelligence facilities to both international and local markets.
Our client base consists almost entirely of owners actively involved in businesses they founded decades earlier. At times, multiple family members are involved. Our clients seek either an opportunity to exit their business or the means to ensure its continued growth. They look to our company to find both an acquirer with the right fit and a transaction that provides maximum value and the correct structure. As a result of the dynamics of this market, our bespoke process has been developed specifically to handle not only the business aspects of these transactions but also their personal and emotional components.
We handle clients in any industry but a disproportionate share of the Tampa office’s closings has involved companies in the healthcare and software development sectors. Closings have increased year-over-year with over 100 closings company-wide for the last six years in a row.
Benchmark International began in the United Kingdom well over a decade ago. Our Tampa headquarters opened in 2013 and continues to grow as our domestic client base and international buyer-contacts expand. We ventured into Texas January 2016. 2017 brought office openings in South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The Nashville office opened in January 2018.
We offer our clients a unique business proposition that has resonated well with the US market as it has with markets in other countries. Recognizing that the US M&A markets are the most robust in the world, particularly in this coveted middle-market range, we are planning to expand our US presence in the coming years. Coming onboard now presents you the opportunity to ride this wave of growth. Benchmark International promotes from within, and we look forward to bringing you onboard as the next generation of Benchmark International’s leaders.
Unfortunately, Benchmark International is not in a position to sponsor visas for candidates in its US offices at this time.
