The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth is looking for a dynamic team player to join our community as Membership and Sales Service Staff for the John W. Lindsay YMCA!

Our Story

Since 1853 the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth has been connecting Nova Scotians to build healthy communities. As a non-profit charity we provide vital services, including Health, Employment, Childcare/Camps, Immigrant Services, and youth Development.

The John W. Lindsay YMCA is a 70,000 sf. Health, fitness, and aquatic facility projecting to serve between 6500-8000 members annually. Facility amenities include: 12,000 sf. of conditioning space, 4 exercise studios, indoor walking track, natatorium consisting of a 6 lane-25 m pool, hydrotherapy & teaching pool with a moveable floor, community meeting room, and a child & family centre.

The Opportunity

As Membership & Sales Service Staff you play an integral role in ensuring programming excellence through provision of a positive, inclusive, and meaningful Y experience that enhances participant achievement of a healthy lifestyle and healthy communities. Reporting to the Membership Manager, this role is integral to ensure the first point of contact is positive and welcoming for visitors, clients, and program participants.

Specifically you will:
Provide introductions and information to members on comprehensive programming options in supporting the achievements of individual wellness goals and community engagement.

Provide front-line support to new and existing members, including membership applications and requests for financial assistance, program registration, member orientations, as well as facility tours and rentals

Provide sales services as well as assisting our membership team with our targeted membership goals

Ensure delivery of Serving All Members (SAM) standards in day to day interactions with visitors and/or members to the Centre. Respond to incoming calls, emails, and requests for information from current and potential members. Resolve member concerns/support issue resolution in a timely and meaningful fashion

Ensure file maintenance of all members, and being in compliance with all safety requirements, industry standards, staff certification and Child Protection processes in support of provision of safe environment for all participants, visitors, staff, and volunteers

Foster a collaborative, inclusive atmosphere in internal/external dealings and communications in support of program delivery

You Bring

As Membership & Sales Service Staff, you bring:
1-2 years’ experience in Customer Service, Hospitality, Member Relations and/or Sales

Strong customer service/sales skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and establish rapport with clients

Experience using Class System and multi-line phone system an asset

Experience generating internal and external leads

Bilingual in French, Arabic, etc. is an asset

Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills

Self-motivated, with strong attention to detail

Experience in fundraising or non-profit sector is an asset

Strong organizational and time management skills

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Successful candidates are required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and valid First Aid and CPR training. Employees are required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
