Since 2007, IRC has worked with refugees and other vulnerable populations in Jordan. IRC’s programs in Jordan focus on urban interventions in the north that address gender-based violence specifically violence against women and girls for Syrian refugees and host community members as well as reproductive health care to Syrian refugees through two clinics based in Ramtha and Mafraq. Since January 2013, IRC also carries out Child Protection programs in Syrian refugee camps, providing specialized services for the identification, support and protection of unaccompanied children (UAC) and other children at risk.

Job Overview/Summary: The position will be responsible for providing essential reproductive health services to the refugees at one of the IRC health facilities in Northern Jordan. The service contract midwife will work up to 11 days/ month according to IRC call for duty.

Major Responsibilities: The Midwife will be specifically responsible for performing the following activities:

Providing clinical care to women and adolescents for reproductive health problems

Providing advice, care and support for women and their babies during antenatal and postnatal periods

Developing, assessing and evaluating individual program of care

Identify high risk cases and refer to IRC doctors or other secondary care facilities if needed

Arranging and providing health education on reproductive health issues

Providing counselling and advice to all patients related to reproductive health

Manage inventories of RH commodities in a professional and tidy manner ensuring accountability in collaboration with the Senior Health Officer (in charge)

Updating patients registration books and other related appointment information

Maintaining and reviewing patient records, charts and other pertinent information relating to HIS

Maintaining patient confidentiality

Key Working Relationships:
Position Reports to: Senior RH Officer (in charge)

Position directly supervises: none

Indirect Reporting: RH Specialist

Other Internal and/or external contacts.

Internal: Medical doctors, midwives and other health staff deployed at the health facility

External: none

Job Requirements:
Education: A certified/registered midwife

Work Experience: 1 to 3 years working experience as a midwife

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
Good communication skills

Knowledge on RH protocols and guidelines

Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively

Committed to helping refugees and working within IRC policies

Language Skills: Fluent in Arabic

Certificates or Licenses: A certified midwife with license of midwifery as per Jordan MOH policy and maintain her license throughout the duration of employment with the IRC

Working Environment: The IRC is providing Primary health Care services to the Syrian Refugees and vulnerable Jordanian communities in Mafraq and Ramtha through fixed clinics and mobile clinics and a Primary Health Care facility in Azraq refugee camp. This position will be based in AZRAQ IRC health facility in northern Jordan. The security situation in the IRC intervention areas is generally calm and the security department of IRC shares regular security updates to keep the management and staff informed about the new developments.
