We are seeking to employ a candidate for the following position:

NURSING TEAM SUPERVISOR

Main purpose of the job:

 

Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
  • Responsible for Nursing activities in Covid-19 Isolation Centre, supervision, monitoring,and close follow up of nurses and other paramedic staff in their day to day medical activities.
  • Ensure patients are properal and received without delay in the ioslation centre,and where possible, briefed or oriented on the ward especially on MSF covid-19 centre rules, covid-19 prevention measures.
  • Ensure proper record of patients record and submission of needed record to the covid-19 data entry responsible. With this make sure all patients files and record are completea and accurate for data encoding.
  • Ensure nursing procedures including patients treatment, taking and monitoring of vital signs and other specifi procedures are well performed as per MSF guidelines and standards.
  • Work and monitor the nurses closely and report any important feedback on patients evolution that requires doctors attention.
  • Responsible for administrative procedures, rosters for nurses and other staff under your supervision, objective and appraissals, written handover, 
  • Responsible for all medical supplies, storage, consumption with close monitoring to ensure no expiries, sleeping stock, overstock in covdi Isolation Centre.
  • Proper follow up of consumption ascertaining all medicine out of medication cupborad is documented on patients files, and tallied before being dispensed in order to monitor consumption.
  • Genral onbservation of good pharmacy practice. Carry out treatments according to Doctors medical prescriptions, join ward rounds and esnure nurses follow doctors orders.
  • Overseeing cleaning and of biomed equipment by nurses, oxygen concentrators, pulse oxmeter, Dinamap monitors, thermomters etc in close collaboration with Logistic.
  • Make sure that the equipment and medicines available in the ambulances are properly monitored: oxygen bottles are renewed after each reference and the emergency bag is updated. Communicate the need for oxygen bottles to the Logistics.
  • Ensure that the food provided to patients and their caretakers is served at the appropriate time and any concerns reagrding deviation from the contratual agreement is communicated to PMR.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the patient, staff, medical and non-medical waste and supply circuit at the covid treatment centre.
  • Ensure all staff and caretakers in COTC are following COVID-19 rules (wearing masks, distance and regular handwashing).
  • In collaboartion with Infection Prevention and Control supervisor (IPC), ensure high standards of hygiene in the working enviornment in , with adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in the Covid-19 Isolation Centre.
  • Aware, promote and esnure IPC protocols and procedures, universla hygiene standards/precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control are followed up.
  • Capacity building of nurses to improve their skills and knowledge in the care of patients admitted in COVID-19 Isolation Centre.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

Specific requirements for the role:

Education

–        Essential: BA Degree in Nursing, any additional diplomas considered as an asset

–        Speciality (nurse or anaesthetist)

Experience

–        Essential 2 years of previous experience including at least 1 year mandatory “internship” with DOH

–        Desirable previous work experience with MSF or other NGO’s  

–        Desirable: previous experience in ICU and/or ER

Languages           

Essential: Fluency in English, Kurdish and Arabic

Knowledge

–        Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

–        Essential: Previous work experience in a managerial/supervisory position

–         Desirable: Experience in Covid Cases Management

ACTIVITY

MSFCH will manage COVID-19 Isolation centre in Sinuni General Hospital, Sinuni District, in order to support DOHN’s response to COVID-19 pandemic by providing lifesaving intensive care for COVID-19 confirmed severe cases.

 

ADDITIONAL INFO

As a part of the MSFCH team, you will be directly exposed to potential contact with COVID-19 patients. Therefore, all interested candidates must ensure not to have any medical pre-existing condition that would make them more vulnerable in case of contamination of the virus.

 

COVID 19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth. People with the following pre-existing medical conditions are more vulnerable to develop complications from this disease:

 

 – Age > 60 years old

– Obesity and Severe Obesity – BMI >30 and ≥ 40

– Diabetes

– Cardiovascular Disease, including hypertension, coronary disease, arrhythmia, heart failure

– Chronic lung disease (including asthma, COPD, TB), heavy smokers

– Chronic kidney or liver disease, including Hepatitis B/C
