Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid (MH) is a leading Iraqi NGO, founded in 2004 with the goal of saving lives and preserving human dignity. The project has a new additional activity, called Support to Electric and Mobile Maintenance Workshops for youth in Shirgat. Mercy Hands will provide minimally 50 selected electric and mobile maintenance workshops in Shirqat with business skills training and assets replacements/toolkits to grow and/or restore their business operations and the provision of their maintenance services. The selected workshops are specialized in mobile maintenance, wiring and microelectronics maintenance, electrical maintenance, digital communication, electrical machines, generators, hydraulics, lighting systems, pneumatics, transformers and/or more.

These workshops are geographically distributed over the city of Shirqat, The Electric and communication sector engineer will support this component for a project for IDPs, Returnees, and host committee for vulnerable families in Salah Al-Din/Shirqat in coordination with local authorities, community leaders, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and livelihood cluster.

The post holder will lead the all visibility and be a communication focal point under output 6 activities in the project. The activity is going to end on December 31st.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Communication & Outreach Officer will be responsible develop a strategy to meet the program’s outreach targets. The post holder is also responsible for developing and implementing the project communication strategy, which includes preparing a written material, presentations, and possibly videos for local audiences to promote project success in Shirgat. She/he will also close consultation with project staff.

The Outreach & Communications& Officer will specifically be responsible for the following;

Identify and secure speaking and public engagement opportunities for Shirgat areas, Mercy Hands amongst different stakeholders.

Assist to Electrical and Communication Engineer for the selection of youth who has an electric and mobile shop based on the technical and administrative criteria.

Coordination with the local, coordinate with relevant local authorities and the community committee to identify and register the beneficiaries.

Lead the visibilities of the project during the assignment period

Assist or lead the all visibility material publish in the MH website and social media.

Coordinate learning activities within the project to support documentation and sharing of key lessons and achievements.

Represent project (output 6) in meetings with various stakeholders: Government of Iraq, the UNDP (donor) , public, private sector.

Given the nature of the work, staff is expected to be flexible and may be asked to carry out duties which are not specifically listed above. The job description may be revised after discussion between the post holder and Project Manager

Minimum 2-3 professional experience in communication, media and/or publication relations, preferably with NGOs.

Demonstrable understanding of NGO supporter development with at least one year of experience in a comparable role.

Experience in writing, editing, proof-reading and designing communication documents for public dissemination.

Good track record of establishing and developing relationships with key people in external stakeholder organizations.

Experience in event organization and management

Computer literate – skilled and confident user in office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and email; familiarity with relevant information technology, including Facebook and website content management.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, conveying messages to different audiences using diverse media.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with beneficiaries, media, and stakeholders from various institutions.

Full proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic required.

Education:

University degree in communications, journalism, advertising or equivalent from a recognized institution.
