Background:

Mission East, founded in Denmark in 1991, is an international humanitarian and development organisation undertaking disaster relief and development programmes in Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

In Iraq, Mission East provides assistance for both urgent basic needs for those displaced by violence as well as longer-term support for returnees and IDPs in protracted displacement settings. Our current programme includes NFI and shelter, cash transfers, WASH assistance, livelihoods support, protection and psychosocial support activities delivered through multi-purpose community centres.

Overall Responsibility

The outreach worker is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining a good relationship with the community. This is necessary to be able to identify women and youth who benefit from the services offered at the community centre. Additionally, the Outreach Worker will support and assist in the training and facilitation of community-based protection groups and community-based PSS activities or initiatives. The outreach team will also deliver awareness raising.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

Main duties

 

Implementation of case management activities

  • Responsible for reaching out to the community to identify crisis-affected and vulnerable women and youth who are in need of psychosocial support and capacity building (internal referrals).
  • Participate in assessments including inter-agency assessments, where possible and/or necessary and regularly monitor women and youth’s general conditions, well-being and needs, particularly identifying vulnerable cases.
  • Establish rapport/trust with the community, especially with women and youth and the social environments they spend time at, to provide timely services and referrals. Attend community meetings.
  • Support in the identification and formation of Community-Based Protection Groups
  • Assess needs of women and youth and inform community centre supervisor regarding trends for timely response at the centre.
  • Support in the training of Community-Based Protection Groups on the topics of children’s rights, child protection, gender-based violence, general protection, and psychosocial support.
  • Deliver awareness raising activities, through outreach and volunteer groups.
  • Identify community champions.
  • Building capacities of Women/Girls Outreach Volunteers for resilience and self-protection.
  • Conducting awareness raising sessions on contextualized Mental well-being and sexual & reproductive health for women and adolescent girls

 

Human resources, logistics and finance

 

  • Adhere to all ME HR policies, procedures and code of conducts that ensures transparency, services and accountability to beneficiaries and report any abuse of beneficiaries by other ME staff, including violation of the child safeguarding policy or sexual exploitation and abuse in accordance with ME reporting procedures.
  • Adherence to the ME security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and/or security manage.

Qualifications Required 

  • Excellent communication and assessments skills with a positive, supportive, eager-to-learn attitude.

 Experience Required

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a similar position.
  • Experience providing Outreach work activities.
  • Prior experience working with women and in emergency contexts.
  • Good understanding of current situation/on-going crisis
  • Competency in writing progress reports; familiarity with principles and practice of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Computer literate (Excel, Word, Email).
  • Prior experience in NGO work preferred.

  • You must respect people of all ethnicities, religions, genders and backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and problem solver.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of team.
  • Patient, culturally sensitive, flexible, and highly motivated to deliver quality assistance.
  • You have the ability to travel within Sinjar district.

Preferable

 Basic spoken English skills.

 You should be a member of the targeted population.
