Mandated by the communion of the LWF to carry out effective and empowering programing addressing human sufferings, injustice and emergencies, LWF World Service works with and for vulnerable and crisis-affected populations to achieve justice, peace and sustainable lives.

 

LWF Iraq has worked in Northern Iraq / Iraqi Kurdistan since 2014 and has been registered with the Kurdistan Regional Government since 2015. It has offices in Dohuk and Erbil.  As an active member in WASH, Livelihood & Social Cohesion and SGBV/Protection Working Groups, LWF Iraq cooperates closely with relevant UN agencies, other INGOs, local NGOs and local authorities. All LWF Iraq ongoing programs in the field of WASH, Protection (PSS), Peace-building and Livelihoods contribute to the Iraq Humanitarian Response Plan and comply with the Core Humanitarian Standard. LWF currently implements activities in the areas of Dohuk and Nineveh Governorates. Through partners, LWF Iraq has reached Salah Al-Din, Bagdad and Anbar Governorates serving IDPs, returnees and host communities in and outside camp settlements.

 

Scope of work:

The Peacebuilding Associate effectively assist in leading the implementation of the social cohesion and peacebuilding project in line with the objectives, budget and timeframe laid down in the proposal. The peacebuilding associate will be responsible for implementing effective Social Cohesion services, including needs assessments, Social Cohesion monitoring, community-based activities in line with the project.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure – through clear weekly and monthly work plans – Social Cohesion monitoring, field assessments, community-based activities, especially life-skills, socio-recreational and awareness raising activities, are carried out in a timely, effective and technically sound manner.
  • With support of the Social Cohesion and Peacebuilding Officer, conduct individual interviews and facilitate participatory Social Cohesion assessments, applying the Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming approach, to fully understand the displaced population in its diversity, their Social Cohesion concerns and priorities, and the resources available to them.   
  • Support the collection of information/data about vulnerability, Social Cohesion needs and concerns of the targeted population.
  • Ensure that the above-described Social Cohesion information gathering, sharing and filing are done in accordance with agreed information management system that respects the dignity and ensure the confidentiality of the information sources.
  • Provide special support services for communities of Social Cohesion needs, including maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality and consent.  
  • Update individual case files, following LWF’s SOPs and ensuring beneficiaries’ data are protected.  
  • Conduct follow-up monitoring visits to ensure that needs have been met in an appropriate manner and beneficiary have the opportunity to provide feedback on the assistance received.   
  • Disseminate clear and reliable information on service provision and other preselected key topics.  
  • Contribute to the establishment/maintenance of a referral pathway, respectful of the confidentiality principle and LWF ‘s SOPs.
  • Contribute to building the capacities of local actors by co-facilitating technical training sessions.  
  • Implement community-based activities, especially socio-recreational, life-skills and awareness raising activities, with special emphasis on extremely vulnerable individuals and people with specific needs, with the aim of improving their psychosocial well-being.  
  • Prepare and submit activity plans and reports in a very well English language to the Social Cohesion and Peacebuilding Officer on agreed schedules.  
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to supervisor on progress, lesson learnt, achievements and gaps, issues, and problems.  
  • Support in maintaining a database of the number of beneficiaries per activity in each location, disaggregated by sex.
  • Support in building constructive working relationships with relevant public authorities and service providers in order to foster effective collaboration and encourage national interest and ownership in Social Cohesion of refugees, internally displaced persons, and other persons of concern.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager, Social Cohesion and Peacebuilding Officer.  
  • Conduct duties in accordance with LWF’s programming and Social Cohesion Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct duties in strict accordance with LWF Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding, and Anti-Fraud and Corruptions policies, while maintaining the principle of confidentiality.
  • Maintain and promote a positive image of LWF and its activities by explaining what LWF is doing and why LWF operates in that way.

 

Professional Standards:

The LWF and LWF workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding, Gender Justice, and Anti-Fraud and Corruption policies.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required qualifications:   

  • University degree in sociology, psychology, education, or other related discipline.  
  • Prior experience with LWF or relevant professional experience of six (6) months to two (2) years working with an international or local nongovernmental organization (NGO).
  • Familiarity with international Social Cohesion mechanisms and human rights; and Iraq law and constitutional rights, with special emphasis on Iraqi law, women rights/empowerment, SGBV, Social Cohesion and peacebuilding, and child protection, would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience working with persons of concern (including internally displaced persons, refugees, and returnees).
  • Good spoken and written Arabic and English.
  • Previously worked with people from different ethnics and backgrounds.
  • Relevant computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as advanced internet research and video editing software.  
  • Ability to travel throughout Dohuk, Erbil, Ninewa, and Baghdad governorates.
  • Ability to work in potentially insecure environments and challenging conditions.
  • Ability to serve as a respectful team player within a multicultural and diverse workplace, including persons with specific needs or other vulnerabilities.
  • A high respect to maintain client and organization confidentiality.    
  • successful in this role you must have: Experience in management of a team and excellent analysis and reporting skills; with a high regard toward preserving confidentiality of work-related information and data.
