SWEDO is a Swedish non-profit, non-political, non-religious development aid organization that was founded in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden. Having continuously operated in the Kurdistan Region ever since, SWEDO’s main priorities of work are construction and infrastructure activities, refugee and IDP initiatives, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, and capacity building.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting protection assessment in urban and non-urban areas with Person of Concerns from different backgrounds
  • Contact selected households in the assigned refugee camps, urban areas and Non-Syrian settlements through phone calls to set appointments for the monitoring visit.
  • Gather and accurately record responses of the refugee households being interviewed on digital devices (tablets).
  • Ensure that the questionnaire has been thoroughly checked and completed.
  • Daily updating weekly progress report.
  • Complete 5 to 8 household monitoring visits per day and team, in accordance with work plan indicated by UNHCR.
  • Attend coordination meetings and trainings when required by supervisors.
  • Commitment to work and manifesting flexibility towards project target achievement
  • Act with the highest standard of conduct representing SWEDO Swedish Humanitarian Aid Organization and UN agencies in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Plan logistics for fieldwork, including monitoring visit locations and time, as well as coordination with fleet team and other protection monitors accordingly.
  • Upon arrival in the camps, ensure to inform camp management, Asayish and Police about the team’s presence and daily plan;
  • Keep track of all contacted and visited households and ensure timeliness of action.
  • Make sure that the digital devices are fully charged prior to field work.
  • Responsible for security and confidentiality of the electronic data and report any possible risk of breach of data confidentiality.
  • Return the digital devices in the same conditions that they have been received.
  • Gather information in an objective, appropriate and sensitive way adhering to the code of conduct for protection monitors (attached).
  • Track the starting and ending times of the House Holds visits.
  • Make sure that the household vulnerability assessment tool visits are saved before leaving the HHs space.
  • Submit completed forms at the end of each working day.
  • Recognize and give an account of problems in obtaining data during the assessment and other challenges encountered.
  • Conduct intake interviews with individuals, which were identified by the team during outreach work or referred by other agencies and open a case if vulnerability criteria are met;
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments for each client after receiving their consent and consider emotional, behavioral and social factors that affect their psychosocial well-being as well as protection and risk factors.
  • Conduct home visits to assess clients’ living conditions if considered necessary.
  • Develop a tailored case plan together with the client, based on needs identified during the assessment.
  • Refer clients to appropriate services and when considered necessary directly accompany them to different service providers.
  • Provide continuous basic emotional support and counselling through regular follow-up meetings, establishing a relationship build on trust and respecting confidentiality protocols.
  • Document promptly each case on the internal case management platform and ensure that any progress on action plan and any significant change in client’s psychosocial well-being and overall situation is timely and duly recorded.
  • Ensure the proper and safe filing and archiving of case management files to maintain data confidentiality.
  • Close a case when the objectives in the case plan are met and no further needs were identified.
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles.
  • Ensure good relationships and coordination with the main service providers in the area of intervention to improve identification of persons with specific needs for prompt referral, follow up and information sharing.
  • Identify and report gaps in the availability of services and quality of service provision for clients in the target areas.
  • Report on special needs cases and advice on types needs Assistance, following discussion with beneficiaries.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Strengthen communication and coordination with other humanitarian service providers, and establish a referral mechanism with them.
  • Uphold SWEDO and UNHCR’s code of conduct, and ensure that all persons of concern are treated with dignity and respect, in accordance with humanitarian principles and human rights standards.
  • Report security incidents encountered.
  • Conduct other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Required Qualification & Skills:

  • Diploma or Bachelor degree in Sociology or Statistics.
  • Fresh Graduated students or one year experience in the same position or protection field.
  • Fluency in Kurdish, Arabic or Persian languages & English Language is a plus.
  • General knowledge of issues pertaining to Persons of Concern to UNHCR and UNHCR’s protection mandate.
  • Good reporting skills.
  • Computer literate – Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel as well as other applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a team work attitude.
  • Professional attitude and strong sense of responsibility.
  • Being interactive and constructive within team through comments, feedback and sharing ideas.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning.
  • Confidentiality – Ability to handle sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Willingness to work in all areas of Erbil Governorate and to work overtime if required by supervisors.
